View Full Version : Five Bands That You Should Listen To

So here's what I've been listening to recently, and what I think that you should be listening to as well. I've jotted down five of my favorite groups and a short little review for each one. I highly suggest you give them all a try
1. The Dandy Warhols- now this is just an excellent band. Even though their last album was more 'pop' than I would've preffered, they haven't done me wrong with anything they've put out yet. If you want a solid band that's simple and listenable but has some truly awesome tunes, then this is the band for you.
2. The Morning After Girls- As far as I know, these guys only have one album out, but this band is absolutely brilliant. For some good alternative sound that's a bit rough around the edges, The Morning After Girls are the way to go.
3. Hopewell- They're a local band from NY, and to be perfectly honest, they don't really bring anything new to the rock and roll scene. That being said, they can consistently deliver some solid rock songs, and put on a spectacular live show with some humungous sounds, and an all around terrific mix of rock and alternative rock.
4. The Secret Machines- For a three member band, the Secret Machines are a true force to be reckoned with. They offer a mix up of slow and beautiful ambience cut up by some truly powerful guitar work. The way these guys play is just brilliant, and they are quickly becoming one of my all time favorite bands
5. The Go! Team- Now here's something that's truly different. If I had to define the Go! Team, the words 'alternative,' 'rock,' 'electronic' and 'hip hop' would immediately come to mind. They play an upbeat style jam with guitars, keys and some stylish effects, over an odd style of hip hop vocals and drums. The result is... well, it's The Go! Team.

So what makes you so high and mighty? You don't like the bands I like, my point is: shut the **** up. You don't have to tell me.
the last dandy warhols single i heard was so disappointing i don't even want to acknowledge whatever good stuff they have
A lot of songs on their last album were pretty ****in bad, but that's a terrible reason to not listen to the rest of their music

This thread is ridiculous. It really shouldn't have been made in the first place, but it's not too big of a deal. You guys should maybe quit acting like assholes though.

Damn right it was a good song! Along with most of their songs. If you don't like the 'poppy' stuff of theirs, get their albums Dandys Rule Okay, and then their self produced album, The Black Album/Come On Feel the Dandy Warhols
Only good Dandy Warhols album is Dandy Warhols Come Down and I really love that one.

Saw the Kings of Leon the other night - pretty rocking.
They supported Pearl Jam though so I didn't really get a chance to get into them but from what I heard they're awesome.

My mom is a fan of Talking Heads, she has a bunch of albums on vinyl, including Remain in Light. All I have on mp3 is that. She showed me the music video for "Once in a Lifetime" when I was in 7th grade, and told me to "listen closely to the lyrics".
Television was a discovery from MX. So was Minus the Bear (saw them at the Hedgpeth Festival).
Autolux was name dropped by Maynard from Tool in an interview, as good bands that don't get any recognition.
The Jesus Lizard was just an automatic had-to-get-into, after hearing Tomahawk.

Why listen to a band that isn't anything new?
because sometimes it can be good to just listen to a good solid band, even if they aren't too inventive.
-and of course the talking heads and television are great, but... eh. anyone can tell you that

if theyre not anything new then ive probably heard someone else do what they're doing and i dont want to hear some band aping another band who did it better before them, and plus it just gets boring to just hear the same thing.

if i wanted to listen to "good solid bands" then i would forget about ever asking MX for music recommendations and just listen to the mainstream rock radio station all day. every band on the radio is "good" and "solid" because they are marketable and have high-quality recordings.
but guess what, it's not nice to listen to them! they're boring, so i don't want to hear em.
