Anyone think Brand New went for the whole indie thing with this album, I mean don't laugh buit the music DOES have a more alternative feel to it compared to Deja Etendu, and also look at the cover art and booklet, Brand New want to be indie, yeah?

The cover is just retarded.

eh, 'indie' albums usually have better album covers.

haven't seen the cover, but as to the music itself, I like what I've heard.
I could really care less about image.

everyone knows real indie album covers are hand numbered/painted/uniquely wrapped and tied with string. then hand stamped with ink and posted to your door. or on some form of limited vinyl.

I really like this album, Handcuffs is one the best songs off that album.

I agree with Your Favorite Weapon being a pretty poor album, but Deja Entendu is amazing.

They always (after Your Favorite Weapon, at least) were an indie band. They just get unfairly lumped with a lot of bad, crappy fashioncore pop-punk nonsense.
I enjoy the new album. I'm not sure if I like it more than Deja Entendu, though.

Big thread about this album in Pop-Punk (check: Take Apart Your Thread). I personally love it. I thought they could've fit another full song in rather than two instrumentals but the rest of the album more than makes up for that slight flaw.

Jesse Lacey is a huge Morrissey fan and he's said that most of his inspiration comes from that. I mean he even rocked the pompadour for a while. Either way I think that this album goes back to his Smiths influences and it really shows.
Every album this band does sounds COMPLETELY different. I guess that's why they call themselves "Brand New"

Yeh, I noticed this. And yeh, the new direction they're going in seems to be the right direction.

Those two singles, I forget their names.

So far this album isn't much of a departure from Deja Entendu, nor is it much better.
Still, it isn't bad.

I loved Deja Entendu, and out of the several songs I've heard from the new ones, it sounds great too.
Jesus Christ sounds alot like something my band would play, so I guess I'm biased.

I think its a great album. I love YFW and Deja. Each album, they sound like a different band. Which i guess i could miss their old sound, but they always seem to switch over to a different sound...that just works.
Deja will probably remain my favorite, but the new album is still growing on me. And with the direction they're heading in, i can only imagine what their next record will sound like.

Are you a Socratic fan or something?
Umm, the Smiths. And I don't think anyone sounds similar to this.

I hear them more on this album than any of the previous. But some of the leaks that didn't make the album sound A LOT like the Smiths. I really wish some of those songs made the album.

what kind of packaging did you guy's CD come in? Did it come in a regular case, or one of the cardboard jobs? Mine is in cardboard paper.

Although it's more towards to pop-punk persuasion, Jason Maffucci from *Just Surrender sounds a little like Jessie Lacey.

I love all of Brand New's stuff. My friend just got the new album today, and it is far more than amazing. What they were, and what they have become are two entirely seperate things. I couldn't even tell it was Brand New at first. I highly suggest getting this album. :thumb:

if their gonna go for the post-modern alt/inde sound, they need to fine tune their sound and know exactly what their influences are and where they need to be utilized. this album shows potential but a lack of ability to grab you in the begining.
and the cover sucks.

It's a better album cover than their previous two so I don't quite get the hate. It's unremarkable obviously, but certainly doesn't suck.
I may end up giving this album a listen, though I haven't particularly liked anything I've heard by them in the past.

Your right in that it's not great. But it's worth a listen, because they have much different sound on this cd. And it's deffinatly unique, if you can sort of grasp some of the more obscure elements.
