So I've been utterly obsessed with The Veils new album, Nux Vomica. Their first album was great, but this new one is even better.
I can most readily compare the sound on the new album to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, with hints of a Tom Waits influence, musically. The album is quite lyrically dark and the vocals are probably the feature. Finn Andrews is capable of a massive emotional range. He can go from intense anger to a solemn sadness, within the space of a couple of lines.
I'll stop trying to explain it. Just listen to the songs on the myspace page or the official website right now.
Nux Vomica is easily my favourite album of the year so far.

I remember listening to some songs from their first album some time ago, and liking them. I'll get around to getting their other stuff one of these days.

Been listening the **** out of both of their CD's for a while now. One of my favourite bands going around at the moment. Got to see them in New York not long back. Sweet gig - only about 100 (maybe less) people there so was right up close. Nice.
So yeah - listen to them.
P.S - Another added bonus is that they're an Australian band. Like Crowded House.

maybe.
Rough Trade is not an indie label.

Did it used to be? I thought Rough Trade had something to do with c86 and early Indiepop bands but I could be thinking of some other label.

Deictionary states that indie isn't a genre.
Rough Trade is a subsidiary of Sony BMG. Not very indie.

Well actually the main man is a Kiwi and I think the rest of the band are poms. And they're based in England now I think.
I think I'm going to have to miss their upcoming Brisbane show. :(
Upcoming Brisbane show you say? Me needs to investigate this.

The entire band is from new zealand, actually. Used to be filled with poms but Finn came dumped 'em, came back home and got some keeweez to jump aboard.
