Hi all
Recently my family has come into a little money and ive been presented with the awesome oppurtunity of getting a new kit and cymbals. Ive always wanted to get either a Mapex Pro M or Sonor Force 3005, they appeal to me greatly and seem like a good value for money.
However...
I live in a semi detached house and my neighbours are absolute t o s s e r s, they complain about my electric kit ffs! Anyway my parents being nice people... they said I will not be able to play on whatever i get THAT much , especially when my neighbours are in next door, as it is unfair. This leaves me thinking that maybe it is unwise to get a Pro M or 3005 as it would be a lot of money on something UI may not use as much as id like, and maybe i should opt for the next one down in each so an M Birch or 2005.
I have every intention of playing on these kits at a shop, but id just like to know yall's opinion :)
What would you do? Advice?
Thanks.
BTW - i currently have a crap Pearl Export(at a friends house) and i play in two bands, one being screamo i guess and the other being a bit of everything, more of a jam band tbh.

Man thats unlucky, go try and talk to your neighbours and ask them when a good time for you to practice would be. If its 4-5 times a week that cool just try and be reasonable. And about the kit well it all depends whether you can play alot or a little the mapex's seem to be just that slightly little bit better for money so id go with whichever you like the pro m or the m birch but all drums you have mentioned are very very nice so either way it all good man. :)

Im not too sure yet, i was jsut going to see what i liked / could afford.
I havent really had the chance to test any, there absolutely no decent music shops within a reasonable distance to where i live. Im going up to London next weekend to go around a few there, should be fun:)

Cool, I'm really lucky. My neighbours are cool :) But I would get the better kit 'cos then when it's time you wont have to buy another kit. :)

My neighbours can't complain because we've been living here longer than any of them. If they don't like it, they can move, cos i was playing drums before they moved here. Anyway, they're all old so they die in the winter
I'd go reason with your neighbours. tell em that when you're rich and famous from drumming because they let you practise, you'll give them a million quid.

nasty predicament. I guess it comes down to how much use you think you'll get out of the drumset. Id say it depends on how much you gig, and just overall how important you think the sound quality of your drums is.

You could always do the nice thing and adjust them to the sound. Put a bass drum up to the wall closest to their bedroom and hit it constantly throughout the night.
You could go the extra mile and have a good place to hide it and a lookout down the street to let you know via walkie talkie when a cop is coming, and then you quick hide it and insist you don't own a drumset.

If i see someone around me with a "for sale" sign, i will always double my drumming time, to hammer home the point. The quality thing is that there is a DJ, and 2 drummers down my street. DJ lives 2 doors down, drummer lives dead across the road, and i live in my house.
Just do it anyway. If they don't like it, they can get over it. there arn't like, any sound laws. And if they still bitch, i'll get a train up to kent along with my kit, and i'll set it up on their front lawn, and play for 12 hours non stop, through the night. And when the rest of your neighbourhood come to rape me for it, i'll say, "i won't stop until these people let this guy drum" and then they'll get angry at the neighbours and then they'll let you drum!

The M birch is not one down from pro M it is cheaper because its made from birch and has slightly thinner hoops which I find preferable (more studio like sound).
Get a new kit man, you can't stick with beginnner kits forever eh?
About the nieghbours, if they complain about your drums, complain about them mowing the lawn, its actually louder to mow your lawn in most cases. They are just stupid upper middle class wankers with sticks up their arses i'm guessing? They can't actually do anything about your electric as it wouldn't break any sound regulations or whatever.

I had almost the same problems as u do m8.
I used a Roland TD6 for praccs, but the neighbours downstairs complained and now i can't practice on anything else but pad's.. If i keep the volume down that is :(
Anyhow.. I purchased a PRO M to use at gigs and jobs, and man i'm sooo glad i did. I just love my kit, 13", 16" & 18" tom's. And a kick-*** virgin 24" BD <3 <3 <3 Ahhh it feels nice to be in love
