Steve Gadd Sig brushes (not sure of the brand, possibly Vic Firth) are awsome, nice and durable. About an inch down from the tip of the brush span, the brushes are angled so you get better contact with the head, and some good volume. Definately worth a look, anyway.

Are Regal Tip actually a good make? I used to have some Regal Tip sticks and thought they were one of the lower brands like Stagg or something.

I don't like regal tip sticks, I love their brushes.
I have the rock and jazz brushes (non retractable ones) damn fine.

I really like Clayton Cameron sig brushes but I would prefer if they were telescopic. I mostly use Vater wire-taps, but I used to use Pro-Mark TD7s (I think).

A bit nooby but what are the benefits of using brushes to sticks?

It's just a different sound in reality. Why use wooden sticks as opposed to twigs ripped straight off a tree? Brushes make a wider range of sounds than sticks.

Ah right ok. I might get some, but thats after I buy a new kit, new heads and a double bass pedal, not forgetting new cymbals :(

Do you use the brushes all around the kit or only on the drums?

All around.

Brushes are like sticks.
You use them like sticks.

You play the drums with brushes.
You play the drums with sticks.

But for both there are different techniques to acheive different sounds.

But you couldn't really crash a cymbal could you.....?

That's not what brushes are supposed to do. ;) .

If you want to CRASH a cymbal, get sticks.

I mean.
If you hit your crash, it will crash.
Probably best if it was a thin one for brushes.
