I tried one in my local store or thursday. I loved it. I was wondering how versatile it is, what kinds of music they are good for, etc. I would probably order it online though, since it is $280 in the store. Maybe I would order it, and if I think the store one sounds better I will trade them, since they will both be brand new.

Well, sizzles are common in jazz but have wonderful applications in any type of music, although their effect only really works at lower dynamic levels. However, you can buy/make your own sizzles for not too much money at all, so I don't know if the "sizzle ride" is necessarily worth it. I would recommend getting a set of sizzles and trying them out on other cymbals (probably your own, but if the store will let you do it on their cymbals, even better!) to compare the sounds and find what works best for you.

well, i just got sizzle hats, and they work well in most genres, so i'd assume the same would go for sizzle rides.

How do you add your own sizzles?

Bacon.
Actually, I think they sell little things that are like those chains with the tiny little metal balls that they put dogtags on to make things sizzle.

They can be used in rock or metal quite well for that 'wall of noise' sound.
Really washy.
Listen to Jon Theodore on Deloused in the Comatorium.
His ride has sizzles and creates an awesome sound.
