If you need a tab, you aren't at a level to play the song.
IE
If you can't figure it out by ear, it's beyond you.

I actually disagree wholeheartedly with that philosophy. Working on difficult transcriptions is a great way to improve. If you study them correctly, transcriptions are actually a great way to improve your ear by teaching you how to play things you obviously couldn't figure out without assistance, thus increasing your musical vocabulary. If you can figure it out by ear, by that point it won't help you nearly as much to learn it.

In most cases that would be true but since its a tom beat with alot of ghost notes it isn't. There is just so much going on that if you don't have anything to grab on to you aren't mentally capable of knowing whats happen. If you were to play the sticking/dynamics on all 4 lims on one instrument each and you still couldn't figure it out, then I would agree that its beyond you.

Tab it out or audio, so I can check. Because it could be wrong, you just think its right(only of intro if you do decide to do it)

So, if you need visual help with a song, you are not good enough to play it ? Does anyone use sheet music here to enable themselves to play a marching piece ?
That was just a dumb thing to say really.

Well no.. that's different.
I read stuff cause I don't memorize it, not cause I couldn't figure it out by ear.
Reading music, I'm cool with that. It's TABS I think are lame.
If you read music to learn something, awesome! That's great! Even better transcribe stuff so you can learn it!

shouldnt we try to learn things that are beyond us? pushing yourself is practice.

You should be able to hear it by ear then learn it. That's how I learnt the lateralus album. When I first heard it I couldn't play it (even if I knew what he was playing) but by listening to it more and more and as my skill progressed I worked it all out.
