At what tempo do you do them? I usually recommend to start at around 40 or 50 BPM...it's more difficult, but alot more benefitial.

I quite enjoy New Breed, also. I haven't come up to many reading mistakes, though. Sure, the odd one here and there, but my band teacher in high school had me sight-reading like crazy. I hated it at the time, but now I'm so grateful for it.

My teacher doesnt want me to use a meteronome. He wants me to count out loud 1+2+3+4+.

he has me playing the readings on the snare alone and then with my bassa lone then playing the first few systems.

What does counting have to do with not using a metronome? It should be a primary tool in any drummers practicing.

You shoudl count (if you need to) along with the metronome.

nah dude...Like he doesnt wantme to use one... No idea why. I tell him that I can play better when I count along with a meteronome. I use a meteronome 100% time on my pad and it feels weird not using it for new breed.

he wants me to be reliante on reading using a meteronome as a crutch or some ****...

Hmm...that's odd. Although it's nice to practice without a click ocassionally to avoid the said "crutch," the New Breed is not one of those ocassions. I guess it would be useful if you were to record yourself while doing it and then play it back and listen for time fluctuations, but otherwise I would strongly recommend using a metronome.

It's crazy how much stuff there is to do on New Breed. Each system has two pages of melodies just to start with; you're to do each bar of melody four times; you're to count to the quarter and to every voice. It's taking me forever but it's so bad-*** challenging hahaha.

That said, I don't see the point of this thread, but no one seems to care fuu~

yea, considering the person who wrote new breed says to use a click with it... I would.

I dunno what "crutch" means. But I'm confident as a drummer to be able to say my time is not perfect, and few peoples are. So ya, i still use a metronome.. call it a crutch or whatever.

I think you should always, when able to, practice wih a metronome. Doing New Breed with out one doesn't make it nearly as beneficial as it could be.

There's New Breed, and Newer Breed, but not Old Breed.

Another great thing about New Breed that people forget is that is teaches you not to rush the endings of things.
