For some reason i got band for a month or two, and i dont know why  If one of the mods could fill me in please..

Anyway..So iv been playing 2 years now, im still a very big Jaco fan, but i want to start findin some new idols. So far iv listend to things by Victor Wooten (who i decided i cant stand and i hate his music) Flea (is ok, but not a soloist) Marcus Miller (who gets abit repetative) Ron Carter (got a few of his albulms) and a load of other jazz bassists (Ray Brown, and Neils Pederson etc) but im looking for somethin DIFFERENT.. something i can listen to not only as an inspiration, but music aswell.

They dont have to be a soloist, just i want some new music that sounds great, but with just enough bass in it. Not to soloy, and not to root noty :P That fine line inbetween.

I'm a big jazz, blues, funk, and classical fan, but other genres are welcome.

Thanks
Rowan

If you can't listen to your inspirations for their music, why listen to them? They can't be that inspiring if you don't like their music.

I didnt say that did i. I can listen to Jaco for his music, but not victor wooten or marcus miller or anyone.

read it properly.

*cough*

Maybe you should make yourself clearer.

Anyway, I can't help you with those genres, but I'll continue to stress that Nate Query of The Decemberists (indie rock/pop) is a great bassist. He plays both electric and upright, as well as cello.

Cant find much stuff of Stuart Hamms. Iv had a look at him once or twice.. That one solo eeeeeveryones senn (he does a medley of a few different songs, including Moonlight Sonata and some country bumpkin type tapping piece) but not much else.

I keep meening to look up Kyle Eastwood. heard good things about him.. Anyone else heard him before? Clint Eastwoods son. Ment to be a good player.

Kyle Eastwood is cool. I've got his CD and it rocks (or grooves to be more precise). Pretty good bass player as well. You should try to check out Christian McBride as well if you like Kyle's stuff.
