The more I realize I absolutely love the Jesus and Mary Chain, the more I want to check out more bands who succesfully execute the "pop song behind a wall of noise" idea. The two aforementioned bands seem to often be mentioned in the same sentence as the 'Chain, and I was just wondering which albums by each of them would be a good starting point, and which other bands have similar aesthetic.

I dig the Raveonettes on occasion. You should at least check out Chain Gang of Love. It's good.

The genre is shoegaze and you'll probably find more bands if you search using that title. Obviously check out Loveless by MBV if you haven't.

I know what shoegaze is, but I didn't know if that was a broad enough term for "bands influenced by the Velvet Underground and Jesus and Mary Chain".

Eric's Trip is noise/lo-fi/punk mixed into one. Like a more punky Jesus and Mary Chain I would say.

MBV are in the thread's title. Which is probably why he recommended shoegaze.

I understand that. I know they're shoegaze. But the Raveonettes aren't. Hence, I didn't just come out and say, "Hey, tell me about shoegze".

I really want to check this out, but nothing of theirs seems to want to download. Do you have any shared on slsk?

Sorry. I space out.

How 'bout the Lovetones?

AndreTheHyena

Did you listen to it?

I listened to one song, and it sounded like Dashboard Confessional. I'm having "folk week", so I may listen to them in more depth after folk week is up. They were compared to Neil Young and Dinosaur Jr., so I'm definitely looking forward to a good listening session.

Try some EVOL/Daydream Nation era Sonic Youth.

I'll probably be strung up for saying this, but I don't like Sonic Youth very much. I have Daydream Nation, and I just can't get into it.

Get Sister or EVOL, you may like them more than DN. They're probably easier to get into, especially Sister.

I've had some in queue ever since you suggested them, but it's never downloaded and it's hard to really find any on Soulseek. I'll look again right now.

I listened to Souvlaki today and didn't really dig it, but I had just gotten back from camping, so it may not have been the best mood to listen to that record.

Is Swervedriver considered shoegaze? What about Pulp?
