View Full Version : Should I buy this bass amp? (urgent!)

I saw someone on craigslist selling a mesa 4x10 powerhouse cab for what seemed like a rediculously low price of $375. I quickly sent him an e-mail and I'm going out to his house tonight at 4:00 to check it out. He says it is in like new condition. Is this a good deal/should I take it? If so, what are some heads that go together well w/ this amp?

but is it strong enough to drive the cab?

I don't know about the Ampeg B500DR head, but Mesa/Boogie cabs rule.

That's an 8 ohm cab you linked to. That means you'll only get maybe 175 watts out of that head. You really want a 4 ohm cab unless you're using 2 cabs.

Doesn't matter, he can still flip it for double what he is paying for it.

Go for the cab!!!

I would say get another head. My friend has the older version on that head it sound great alone, but just can't cut through the mix(guitars, drums and keyboard) I love my GK head you should check those out.

W00t!!! I did it. I'll try to post more about it tomorrow w/ pics and stuff. ITS FREAKIN BEAUTIFUL!! At that price, i figured screw the b500, I'll figure out the head situation later.

Haha, I stopped at guitar center before I bought it and they had one for 950 bucks. 1 hr later I had one in my car for 375 -- CRAIGSLIST FTW!!!

Congrats on a really nice cab. All you need is a mesa or thunderfunk head to go with that now.
