This thread is designed to discuss the highly prolific and...odd Swedish multi instrumentalist, Dan Swano. The man has performed just about every rock instrument on various releases and has also produced several albums as well, leading one to wonder whether there is anything Dan Swano HASN'T done. I found a full discography on wikipedia, this is just plain ridiculous:

Altar - Keyboards, backing vocals
Another Life - Drums, keyboard, guitar solo
Bloodbath - Drums (1998-2004), Guitar (2004-2006)
Brejn Dedd - Drums, vocals
Canopy - Guest vocals, guitar
Cronian - Mastering on the album Terra
Dan Swanö - Vocals, all instruments
Diabolical Masquerade - Writing, drums (on Nightwork), guitar solos, producer
Edge of Sanity - Vocals, guitar, keyboard (old), all instruments (current)
Evoke - Producer (Dreaming The Reality)
Godsend - Vocals, keyboard
Incision
Infestdead - Guitars, bass, drum programming
Karaboudjan - Vocals, all instruments
Katatonia - Drums
Maceration - Vocals, keyboard, piano (under the alias "Day Disyraah")
Mahlstrøm - Guest vocals
Masticate - Guitar, bass, vocals
Nightingale - Vocals, guitars, keyboard
November's Doom - Mixed and contributed a guitar solo on the song "Dark World Burden" on the album The Pale Haunt Departure
Odyssey - Vocals, drums, keyboard
Opeth - Producer
Overflash - Drums
Pan.Thy.Monium - Bass, keyboard, effects (under the alias "Day Disyraah")
Ribspreader - Guitar
Route Nine - Vocals, guitar, bass, keyboard
Second Sky - Everything
Sörskogen - Drums, bass, keyboard
Star One - Guest vocals
Steel - vocals
Subway Mirror
The Lucky Seven
The Project Hate MCMXCIX - Producer

Total Terror - Guitar, vocals
Ulaan Bator (band)
Under Black Clouds
Unicorn - Vocals, drums
Vinterland - Producer, Keyboards
Wounded Knee - Producer

I'm listening to Bloodbath's "Ressurection Through Carnage" album right now, and I can say that the man is certainly no slouch as far as metal drumming goes. The best part is that, after all of this work, the guy kept his dayjob as a salesman at a record store in Sweden.

I'm familiar with Bloodbath, Pan.Thy.Monium, Masticate, Katatonia and Ribspreader. I wouldn't say he's one of my favourites or anything, but he's been involed in some good bands.

I long ago came to the conclusion that he hasn't got any spare time, or a very boring life at home.

I love him. The best things he's done are Steel and the cover of Country Girl with Peter Tagtgren.

He is amazing Indeed. I'm very fond of "Encounterparts", the song. GG.

Oh man I wanna hear that Steel album so bad lol. He's in a few bands that I listen to pretty often, most notably Bloodbath. Nightmares Made Flesh is, in my opinion, one of the best death albums to come out in a while (even though its a few years old).

I like a lot of what he's done, mostly on the production part but also some of his bands, but Nightingale is one hella gay band.

By the by, it's Dan Swanö, not Swano.

Yes but the funny letter is hard to type for us Americans.

Anyway, it's no use using it it or not, really.

I love so much of what Dan Swano does. Many of his projects rank up there amongst my favorite bands.

I never knew he did vocals on Star One's album...

Star One is a Arjen Lucassen thing right?

That it is. I'm actually suprised he worked with Arjen...they aren't that similar musically.

I've only heard him in Diabolical Masquearde. Good work with that group, however. I do know the guys extremely talented and versitile though.

I figured it would be an easy thing to figure out...most people don't put the weird thingy in Mikael Akerfeldt's name, either.

Never heard of the guy, but reading that list, I've heard his work a few times!

I'm shocked that people haven't heard of him.

That's because he's too underground to be recognized by us mere scene metalheads.

Well, it's just bastardizing the language, really. But who is here to save the langauge anyway. Aside from Jelle. >_>

Frankly I'm generally not a fan of people who just play in millions of bands/projects. He's obviously not emotionally attached to any of them, he's basically a session musician, and that comes through in the music invariably.

I like musicians who are involved in many projects. You can see more sides to them. Of course if all the projects sound the same, say Steven Wilson, unlike say, Buckethead. :)

Eh, being prolific doesn't mean that you aren't emotionally attached. It simply means that you're open minded and probably work really damn hard, plus in the case of Swano, you're ridiculously multi-talented. Generally (not always), people play with many different groups because they're effing good and people want them to play with them.

Yet you like Porcupine Tree...
