I thought about this last year after rod brind'amour finally got a SC after around 18 years of waiting, whats the longest time a player, in any sport has had to wait to get a championship?

you say any sport? well this sport has been around for 50 years.. so it is a valid sport. In "Guts Frisbee" Dan Thornton has gone 36 straight years with out winning the "holy grail" ( International Frisbee Tourney) of Guts Frisbee. If you want to see the sport being played check out this site= www.gutsfrisbee.com. look at the videos, even if they are crappy.
edit: this is a team sport

individual sports shouldn't count because the field of contestants is much more numerous than leagues with 25-30 teams.
i think Ray Borque played for like 20 years in Boston without winning the Stanley Cup. then he said "hey i'm gonna go play for the Avalanche cause they have, ya know, a good team and a chance to win every year." so he did, and he won :)
Gary Anderson and Morton Andersen were two long-time placekickers in the NFL, and neither of them ever won a Super Bowl (might not have even PLAYED in one!). but Morton is out of retirement and playing for the Falcons now, so you never know!

Kickers aren't real people though.
Ray Borque is the longest I can think of. Barry Bonds is starting to get close, its been about 16 years or so for him.

baseball players have gone much longer than Bonds due to how completely uneven the teams are. Anyone who played for the Cubs or Red Sox their whole careers (like Carl Ystremski or Ted Williams) definitely falls into that unfortunate category.
Craig Biggio is going into his 19th year with the Houston Astros and is yet to win a Championship.

vinny testaverde's been around for about 2 decades on and off and has never won a superbowl to my knowledge. (although he recently signed with the Patriots which improves his chances of a super bowl ring immensely)
dave andreychuk of the tampa bay lightning had to wait at least 20 years to finally win the Cup in '04

yes, but i'm saying he USED TO be in that category.
if you played in the NBA in the 90s, your chances of winning a championship weren't very good. in an eight year span from 90-98, the Chicago Bulls won six times and the other two went to the Houston Rockets. so unless your name was Jordan, Pippen, or Olajuwon you probably weren't very famous for winning the big games. in fact, famous 90's star Alonzo Mourning only won a championship this summer with the Heat, and Karl Malone never won at all :(

I think Glenn Wesley and Dave Andreychuck actually went longer than Bourque or Brind'Amour without a championship before they won one. I'm not 100% sure about that one though.
