DragonForce are a brilliant band, despite what some people say. I am a big fan.
One of the things I like most about them is the fact that their music takes incredible talent and skill. And it has lots of energy, great solos, great vocals, and Herman Li. What more could you want?! :P

The energy seems fake, or just lame to me, and the solos are good, but I'm not into listening to solos that are there just to show off. And the vocals are annoying.
Good musicians though, just not my thing I guess.

They put on a fantastic show live. It's music that really makes you want to jump up and down and break things.
Herman Li has a cool assortment of little tricks with his guitar (playing scratches with the trem bar for instance), but Sam Totman has the more soulful style.

dragonforce basically suck. yes, they have skill, but they don't put it to good use. plus their songs are incredibly similar to each other. i know that they are meant to be cheesy, but this is just so off putting. i've seen them live, and i enjoyed the first half of the show as much as i could considering i don't like their music (but they are quite good for a live band) but then it got so repetitive that i just wanted it to be over. i met them and they were nice guys, but as a band i just don't like them.

I really like them regardless of other peoples opinions. They do suck at playing their own stuff live (and in the "studio" videos) but the album stuff is brilliant, very original lead stuff. They need to sort out how they hold their picks though.
Good to hear. I'm thinking of taking a plastic sword and shield for drunken fun. Is that considered normal Dragonforce gig behavior?
I don't want to look like a weirdo!
yep, it's pretty well normal at their gigs. look at the front when people have left to see a massive assortment of broken plastic weaponry :p
the band tend to nick stuff from fans at the front as well, and play their instruments with them.
i think it was Steerpike who mentioned Sam's more soulful playing style, i like how his playing is much more bluesy, rather than shredding too much, i definitely prefer his solos.

The band won't be nicking anything off me, I won't let them :p

When I saw them, thye put on a great show. I noticed a few mistakes, but they are human after all. Plus they are pretty energetic on stage. Im sure if they just sttod around like statues, they would be much more accurate. I love Dragonforce, but only in small quantities. Too much gets on my nerves really fast.

DragonForce seem to have the same ethic as Children of Bodom: When you're playing on stage, who gives a damn if you make a few mistakes so long as the audience is totally ****ing juiced?
And I have to agree with them. Why should I pay $50+ for a show and not get a show.

Thats a great ethic for a band to have. Sure, I love some bands that dont move around at all (Dream Theater), however, Dragonforce put on a great live show. If they werent so energetic, it would not have been half as good. I think everyone should see them if they get the chance. It is quite the experience.
any band that has a lot of energy and stage presence can get away with making mistakes - i read an old diary entry of Nicko McBrain's from the 2003 maiden tour, and apparently at the gig where i saw them, they all made some mistakes, but there was so much energy in their performance that none of the audience noticed.

If this was their first show in Toronto at the Opera house, then I was there also. The chain mail dude was ridiculous, I don't know how he could stand the heat under all that ****. I was dying just in a T-shirt haha.
I also realized last week that I haven't listened to the force in a while, so i put on Sonic Firestorm. I absolutely love that album. Above the Winter Moonlight, My Spirit Will Go On, Fury of the Storm, Fields of Despair.. actually **** it, the entire album ftw :).

Dragonforce is a great band. Yeh, it is true that they may sound kind of repetitive, but still I enjoy listening to them. Herman Li is a very fast guitar player, and has a good imagination for the tapping stuff. Sam Totman is also an amazing guitar player, also very fast. I love the kind of solo fights they both create in their songs.

This is a really good band full of amazing musicians, the way they construct there songs is really well done imo, and it is good that on inhuman rampage vadim was able to let his creativity out a bit more. The only downside with this band is the repetetivness through the versus when they just play with speed. I like the vocals and I think that they are really good power metal vocals but thats just me

Dragonforce are silly. There is no denying that. But it sure as hell beats the whiny lameosity perpetrated on metal for so many years. I mean it's been an unbroken line of whinge from Nu Metal through all this shi'tty emo that's masquerading as metal or metalcore or post-something. It's refreshing to hear some righteous shredding, audible lyrics about doing something other than sitting at home crying and writing poetry and bitching melodies. Dragonforce are the band that had to happen. Hopefully more fun metal will follow. Even more hopefully Viking Skull will rise up to the mighty place they deserve.

I caught Dragonforce back in September in Vancouver, awesome show. As one would expect the energy was up and the sound was tight. I also managed to get to the show a little early and I got to see Herman walking around outside the venue with his guitar, as well as Sam being stocked by a few groupies, was cool. LARPing is an acronym meaning Live Action RolePlaying. It's for people who enjoy playing RPGs, but would like to get a modicum of exercise into their routine somehow.
And since I've seen pictures of some women who participate in this and wear very low-cut tops and other revealing costumes, I'm all for this practice!

More like:
• Practise more
• Stop drinking and thinking it's cool
• Get a rhythm guitarist so it doesn't sound like *** during the harmonies.

Trivium had potential, but are far to serious, lame (oh we stopped boning groupies and drinking), crap and wanting-to-be-metallica. Bring back the days of heavy metal hedonism!

Well I don't know the reason why they stopped drinking but if it was anyhting to do with improving performance, then that's a step forward in my opinion. They're one of that bands that people like to pick on for being sloppy live and yeah, they have a good reason but then if they're noticing this and doing something about it, then that's mature and very respectable.
I haven't seen/heard them live since they released the Crusade so I don't know how they've improved but I do definitely think teh guys from DF need to have a close look at some of the live videos and take some things into consideration.

If The Crusade is the kind of music they make while sober, they need to get back on the bottle.

bwaha i win.
and no, i did not purposefully set a trap. dragonforce is technically good but their musicc is extremely unapealing to me. Their lyrics hold no emotional or even psycological apeal, and their rythms are not complex enough for me to enjoy. Technically, they are all able musicians and im sure their shows are badass but i think HORSE owns them in every aspect except for singing talent and extreme guitar shredding ability.

Trivium quit drinking? Damn
I'l judge their live show on december 14th..one day after seeing them on the (yes you guessed it) 13th December. Though from live videos I've seen they'[ve always been entertaining. Perhaps a few errors involved but I guess its just 50/50.

More like:
• Practise more
• Stop drinking and thinking it's cool
• Get a rhythm guitarist so it doesn't sound like *** during the harmonies.
ZP is fine live, he was the only member I could actually hear, even Dave was too quiet at first, I couldn't believe it. I waited all week for them and they start playing My Spirit Will Go On and I hardly recognised it. :(
did you go download? you going next year? im praying for bodom to play lol. either that or Im fancying a roadtrip to germany :p wacken baby

Yeah I went Download. Don't know about this year, depends on the bands. Bodom are getting pretty mainstream so maybe...

Umm, Arch Enemy, Avenged Sevenfold, Metallica, Guns N Roses, Stone Sour, Satryricon, Cradle of Filth and Bullet for my Valentine. I enjoyed watching Wicked Wistom too, that bitch can growl lower than Corey Taylor...

I hadn't ever heard of them and then the guitarists in my band were like lets go see Dragonforce and I was like, uh . . . ok, and now I love them. The live show was awesome. And, ZP is pretty hot . . . and I love Sam and Herman, they are amazing. Plus, how could you hate a metal band that has a keyboard/keytar player?

They're pretty cool in small doses. Through The Fire and The Flames is an awesome awesome song but I probably couldn't take a full album of theirs.
I love Through the Fire and the Flames but listening to anymore than that just gets old...very talented band, very repedative band.

I saw them for the second time last night (first was back in January), they were pretty good but the sound was bad.
There were some emo kids infront of me constantly shoving people and jumping up and down aswell.
Do they ever play Dawn Over A New World? They haven't either of the times I've seen them.

We come from distant lands we travel so far
Can you see the bleeding scar
A land unknown we come so far
We ride the night till morning star
Far beyond the boundaries of hell and starlight
On the road to lands unknown forever more
Their in the silent lands on wings of glory free
We can go on forever with the darkness so far away
On wings of burning fire across the oceans far
On towards our destiny we travel far and wide
Journey through the darkenss as your hearts refuse to die
Far away beyond the gates of space and time
Through the wastelands forever and on
So far away we wait for the day
For the lights are so wasted and gone
Far and wide across the land, the victory is ours
On towards the gates of reason
Cry far away as we reach for the day
Blasting our way through the punishment and the pain
Far beyond the lost horizon standing on the shore
Fly far away to the end of our days
We fly free so far from here there's one thing we'll relay
Here we are far beyond the distant sky
Never know how far we travelled
We will have our stand
Each of these lyrics came from different songs. Yes, Dragonforce, we get it. Everything you guys do is done in some place REALLY GODDAM FAR AWAY.
Dragonforce are a parody of themselves and undeserving of anyone's respect.
Thank god they know how to mindlessly apply technical skill in order to cover up repetitive and uninspired lyrics held aloft by equally repetitive and uninspired song writing. Hell it manages to distract and wow the 14 year old emo kids who crowd up their shows.
Hey at least they're fast amirite!???!!

They're not the best Metalcore band (BTBAM) but they're up there. Their vocalist really stepped it up on their last release.

Though I don't think I'll ever run out of jokes talking about the quality (or lack thereof) in Trivium and Atreyu lyrics. The jokes practically write themselves!

Im a pretty big dragonforce fan. I could see how people wouldn't like them though, the 9 minute songs with the same drum beat throughout the song could definatly turn people off. But I find them very entertaining and every person in the band is very talented, Even though you can hardly hear the bass. But when you do hear the bass its pretty intense, like in Body Breakdown

That's literally the only exciting thing they've done on bass since well, ever. In fact, that's one of the only things that's caught me by surprise since Disciples of Babylon.

Yeah I know, its sad. because their bass player is truly good. I mean you can't even hear the bass going with the guitar. ever. It's NEVER audible

Their new bass player is terrible (at least at bass). Adrien was pretty good though. Fredric is a great guitarist though.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. The bass is perfectly audible on lots of songs, particularly on Valley of the Damned. Maybe you should get some better speakers/headphones?

I know this is reviving an old topic, but I thought I'd just like to say I went to see Dragonforce in Bristol, UK on Tuesday with special guests and All That Remains and Firewind, and Dragonforce without a doubt put on the best show. Taking the piss out of Matt Tuck, getting the crowd to shout "SAM'S A C***", the trampoline girls (who, beside the numerous chants, didn't get their tits out) and basically just a fun and energy filled show. It was seriously, seriously worth the £12.50. They could have charged £200 and it would have been worth it.

well i saw 'force for the third time about 2 weeks ago at manchester and they were alot better than last time (mostly becuase they didnt have Edguy to steal the show from them, but still...) Firewind were well cool. But i was really disapointed by all that remains, they had a few good moments but overall they were very meh-ish, except for the drummer who was pretty damn awesome.
i was sooooooooooo happy when they played revolution deathsquad, also when i saw an acoustic guitar at the side of the stage, i hoped against hope that the would play disciples of babylon but to no avail :(
