Well I was wondering how far frets would need to be spaced after it got past like the 22nd fret. I was thinking of making a guitar with loads of frets. How small would they have to be up to 30?:chug:

Pretty damn small, go to http://www.conklinguitars.com/ and look at the 36 fret models.

I don't know the exactly numbers though, it depends on the scale of the instrument. I doubt many people on here will be able to help you with that.. we only have 2 professional luthiers here that I can think of, JP and SoM.

However if you go to talkbass forums, I think they have a fret size calculator somewhere on there.

Oh right I may look at that but at talkbass it is only basses and this is for a guitar.

Probably the fret calculator allows you to put in any scale length. If not, try the fret calculator at mimf.com.

It has an adjustable scale length, but I don't know if it goes down to a guitar scale length. It's worth a shot, and if it doesn't work there are other fret calculators out there.

Here's a fret calculator.

Most fret calculators allow you to type in the scale length.

It's a fairly easy recursive function to figure out the fret distances.

f(0) = scale length
f(0) - f(0) / 2^(1/12) = Distance to fret 1
f(1) - f(1) / 2^(1/12) = Distance to fret 2
f(2) - f(2) / 2^(1/12) = Distance to fret 3

etc.
