Even though there is a thread specific for doom metal, I believe that these guys are good enough to deserve their own thread. If you’d like to read a bio of the band, here’s a Wiki link:

But Candlemass is truly an amazing band. When I first heard Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, I was amazed by the variation of fantastic songs, and ‘Solitude’ being one of the greatest (I think) of the band’s career. Then I heard Nightfall after Epicus, and I personally think it’s better than Epicus, but that’s mostly because of Messiah’s amazing vocals.

I’ll ask an opening question to get things goin’

Whose vocals do you prefer, Messiah’s or Johan’s?

I love Nightfall and EDM, but I'm not really a fan of Ancient Dreams. I need more of their material.

I thought Messiah did more for the band with his snogwriting contributions, but the self-titled showed Lief Edling at his strongest in writing. Messiah's left now, so I'm curious to see how the next album is going to go.

I did a write-up on them sometime ago and it went over fairly well.

Yeah, I dig them but back when Steerpike did the spotlight I was in Austin so the files never made it onto my computer. Anyone want to upload me an album or two?

EDM and Nightfall are both essential metal albums. This band is fantastic, even though I think their newest album is terrible.

I don't really see how Candlemass would be overrated.

Well when Doom is mentioned, Candlemass are nearly always the first band to come up, and are easily the most popular band in the genre. Personally, I think they deserve all the praise they get but I can see how someone could think they are overrated.

and I prefer Johan to Messiah by the smallest of margins.

Messiah's vocals on Bewitched are fantastic, though. But, then again, so are Johan's on 'Solitude'.

Love this band, but my favorite album would be Tales of Creation.

I like Messiah best when it comes to vocalists.
