Discuss Primus/Les Claypool
primus has not made an album since 1998, but claypool has made some solo albums. "Of Whales and Woe" being one of them. He also has some jam bands includeing one with the guitarist "Buckethead". I read recently on ug that primus is makeing a new album now.
I listened to Sailing The Seas Of Cheese the other night. I'll get this CD and listen to it and let you know what I think.

Of Whales and Woe is an amazing album. I had it constantly on repeat when I first got it!
I don't think I could ever tire of it.
I prefer it over any Primus I've heard so far :D

I have all of the Primus records, and 3 Les Claypool records (Of Whales And Woe, Purple Onion, Highball With the Devil). And from what I've contrasted from the two, Les Claypool is better than Primus.

I like Primus better then Les Claypool, and Oysterhead better then both. Oysterhead is such a ****ing super group.
Anyway, I have Of Whales and Woe as well. I must say, Vernon the Company Man and Filipino Ray are my two favorites. Closely followed by One Better and Nothin' Ventured. However, I'm not a fan of the drumming. Don't get me wrong, Les Claypool did a good job playing the drums, it's just they started to annoy me after a while.
Anyway, what do you mean that his vocals are more serious? I don't agree. I think his vocals are just as serious on Primus then on his solo cd and I would like an explanation to your reasoning.
If you liked Of Whales and Woe though, CHECK OUT OYSTERHEAD. If you don't know, Oysterhead has Trey Anastasio on guitar, Les Claypool on bass, and Stewart Copeland on drums.

Les is a friend of mine, we go every year to San Francisco on New Years Eve to see him play in some band or another..
Yes, he is crazy, wild, very talented & smokes a ton of pot...
But the nicest guy in the world..Every year he makes time to hang out with me & my adult kids who love Primus, Frogs, etc...
That is Primus though.
Thank you, PsychoTronn.

Les was awesome at Bonnaroo. His Of Whales and Woe material really comes out live, and his touring band is insane.
Oysterhead live was

Holy ****. You know Les Claypool?
Well, we are not very close pals, but I always see him 2-3 times a year, or when he is in LA we get together..
I am looking forward to New Years Eve at The Fillmore. Any word yet about his
show there??
I saw this dude live without ever having heard his music before...I went for the opening act...but his show was quite nuts, as well as making me feel pretty inadequate as a bass player.
I love "One Better."

I just heard what that Bonnaroo festival was the other day. My brother has the DVD from '02, where Claypool plays in "The Flying Frog Brigade" and "The Bucket Of Bernie Brains". A cool DVD, and it seems like a sweet type of festival with all of the jam bands.
Did you got to it?? Or are you just speaking of some footage you saw??

Gogol Bordello supporting Primus sounds like a good couple of bands on the tour.

My good friend went and saw him at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, which I think is where the Hallucino-genetics DVD was filmed, the lucky bastard.

Primus are still going?! Who is their drummer these days? Tim Alexander is one of my heroes!
Yeah, I'm an uber fan of Les Claypool in general, he's a great guy!

Tim is indeed drumming for them these days. I ****ing love Primus so much. I really like Claypools solo stuff, but non of it beats Primus IMO. Although I really like C2B3, really great group. I've got to check out more Oysterhead, seems like a tremondous line up.

I prefer claypools jam bands and efforts with other musicians to his solo stuff, I think he trys too hard to go all out weird when theres noone to keep him in check, I did love Holy Mackerel though. C2B3 or Frog Brigade are my favourate claypool projects.

I got the Of Whales and Woe cd and I think it is really good. It is cool becuase it is Claypool doing more serious music but it is still crazy and still has amazing bass.
Does anyone else like this cd?
I saw him on the Whales tour. This is my favorite album. By My Favorite Musician. Who was in my favorite band (primus).

I bought the Les Claypool DVD yesterday. It has some great live footage. I like him best in "The Frog Brigade", it's his best band IMO. However, I love his playing with Buckethead too :)

Just saw Primus last Friday...It was insane. They played Tommy the Cat as well, I guess thats the second time they played it on their tour. Hell of a song to end the show with.
Definitely one of my favorite bands.

They were just here recently and they sucked. Their set wasn't even an hour and they didn't even play any classic songs. I was really dissapointed especially since it cost 50 bucks.

That is true...the set was pretty short to say least.
I do remember they played here a couple years ago...a buddy of mine said the set lasted like 3 hours or something like that.
