okay, so i was thinking of designing a head stock, and i was thinking of buying a epiphone, or maybe gibson standard neck and head stock. and then, cutting, sanding, and finishing it down to a design like this:
(the black area is what would be cut out.)

so, my question is;
would this be structuraly fine? would it be plenty strong enough to were i wouldnt have to worry about things like that? and how do you think this may effect my tone, if at all?

btw, it would be going on a Peavey T-60, i just think the head stocks on those are horrid.

um... it could potentially lesson sustain, you might not notice....structurally it COULD work but no promises it depends on the wood....it might be real weak tho...not sure sorry i cant be more help

EDIT: i like the idea thoo

Looks like a cool idea. Structurally, it depends on the wood. Then again, you see those skinny headstocks on Parker guitars. So I'm sure it'd work. You plan on finishing it though, right?

Yay for Michigan people. :chug:

looks pretty cool but its kinda been done before. Kramer made a similar headstock in the 70's and 80's. www.vintagekramer.com

thats probably where i got the idea from, i saw someone awhile back with a head stock like that, and figured it was custom made. i guess the image of it kinda stuck in my brain.

It would be fine. You really are interested in the angle the string makes from the nut to the tuner. If it is even remotely vertical, you'll be fine.

That design has "Kramer" written all over it.

It will depend on the woods used.

You might also want to try using several laminate pieces to add to the integrity and place a final laminate piece over/on top the other laminates in the the headstock itself.

I think it would work, but I would be really careful about how much wood is cut out.
