Long-defunct Florida-based band CYNIC, whose 1993 album "Focus" is regarded as a landmark release in the field of technical/progressive metal, is rumored to be planning a reunion tour in the spring/summer of 2007, beginning with possible U.S. warm-up performances and culminating in a number of festival appearances across Europe. Although there has been no official announcement regarding the matter, informed sources have told BLABBERMOUTH.NET that CYNIC's planned reunion lineup will include Paul Masvidal (vocals, guitar) and Sean Reinert (drums, keys) alongside Tony Teegarden (vocals, keyboards), Chris Kringel (bass) and Santiago Dobles (guitar). Both Teegarden and Kringel previously toured with CYNIC in support of "Focus", while Santiago — who is said to be "the man behind AGHORA" — has been around the CYNIC camp since 1993-94 and was one of Masvidal's guitar students in Miami back in the day.

CYNIC reunion lineup:

Paul Masvidal - Vocals / Guitar
Sean Reinert - Drums / Keys
Tony Teegarden - Vocals / Keyboards
Chris Kringel - Bass
Santiago Dobles – Guitar

No Jason Gobel and Sean Malone (or even Tony Choy) is a shame, but it's still good news I guess.

Hooray.

Although the different lineup reduces my determination to go see them a little bit.

Cool. I'd like to see them, but the change in lineup would have me a little apprehensive. Still...should be cool. Not that they'll come anywhere close enough for me to see them but here's hoping.

Is it just for touring? No new material or anything?

It has Reinert and Masvidal; therefore, it is definitely worth seeing. I'd prefer to have Malone there as well, though. :(

Though I haven't heard them, this is still quite cool for the fans.

It would be awesome to be able to see them, even with a different lineup.

This may well tempt me back into a metal gig for the first time in a couple of years.

Shii, regardless of the members, this is awesome news indeed! I'm definitely gonna try to go if they come anywhere near me.

Man this is awesome, although I am kinda dissapointed that it won't be the original lineup. I'm kinda hoping for another album too but I doubt that'll happen.

Please let them come to Vegas (yeah, right).

Probably just for touring. I'd be very suprised if they did new material.

This is nice. I like Focus. Maybe the outcome will be nice and interesting.

I totally brought this up about 6 weeks back in the Death Heads thread.

Hopefully they'll play some Florida shows with them being from Florida and all.

wasn't Chris Kringel one of the orignal Cynic members before Sean Malone? Also, Santiago Dobles should be good, he is the guitarist for Aghora

Tony Choy was the original bassist and Chris did the tour after Focus was released.

Still, he'll be a beast no doubt.

Kringel played on the tours after Focus.

I believe Malone did one tour with Cynic, as I have seen a video of them playing live with him in the band.

Tony Choy is busy with Atheist right now, so I don't even know why people are bringing him up.

No. Freaking. Way.

I think I just wet myself.

Cynic tour. I bet they won't come to Australia though.

Santa Clause playing bass should be interesting, indeed.
