hey gice

I've Decided to build a guitar, partially because I want somthing that i really couldn't find without going custum and spending whole lot of cash, and because I'm intrested in building/woodworking.

so I have a few Questions:

scale. how is it measured and how do you find the distance between frets, for example for a 30inch scale whats the distance between the nut to the
1st, the 1st to the 2nd..etc.

second, what glue would you recomend for glueing a neck-through to the wings and such.

I'm planning on building and 8 string guitar(regular frets, not fanned), maple neck with purple heart strips. the body will be mahogany or swamp ash, or mabey maple. I haven't decided yet

any help would be apreciated
thanks gice

To measure scale length measure from the nut to the 12th fret then double the number, that is you scale length.
The easiest way to figure out fret spacing is using a fret calculator
http://www.stewmac.com/FretCalculator/

As for glue titebond original is the most widely used glue for guitar making.

awsome man

also for a truss rod, would a 25.5 inch scale truss rod work for an 8 string that is going to have a scale of ~30 inches, or do i need to get a specific one?

so for a 30 inch scale it's 30 inches from nut to bridge?

Not 100% sure on the truss rod, i've never built a guitar around that scale length, you may need to use a truss rod designed for a bass or make your own.

so for a 30 inch scale it's 30 inches from nut to bridge?

pretty much

Use the stewmac program to do the fret distances. If that doesn't work for you, I have a program that will. I use the titebond as well, very good quality stuff. I would use the stewmac bass truss rod, 24" I think. Or a longer one if you can find one. 30" scale will be the distance between the nut and bridge, give or take a little bit for intonation. Any other questions?
