when did you know that you are confident enough to adjust a truss rod? on what kind of bass did you do it?

I've never done it but wouldn't consider it on anything remotely valuable my first time.

When I read up on how and why it worked. First bass was a LTD B-105.

Had been doing it to guitars for a while before that. Its all part of a good setup.

when I read up on it and said fvcking taking it in to be adjusted. I did it to a cheap GK beginner bass and my epiphone strat.

The first think I did when I got my first bass was adjust the truss rod. It is an SX P-Bass so it was in need for a set-up.

You're supposed to do it with the strings on to keep the tension on the neck.

You are far more likely to damage the truss rod than the neck, from over tightening. Consider you are bending wood so 1 you don't want to turn it a lot quickly, and 2 it'll take a little time to settle into its final position.

Nothing to be scared of tho. You don't have to wait around a day for each 1/4 turn. Just check it, turn it 1/4, recheck. If it needs a decent bit more give it another 1/4. If its almost on, let it settle and check again in the morning.
