i can't belive people are talking trash about saosin and circa survive... you're probably only listening to one song and making a quick judgment. What i say you do with your half thought out opinions is;

shut up

hahahahaha. everyone around here used to bone it (circa) because his croon was similar to atdi 'apparently'. its all just so unbelieveably boring and generic words cant describe. sure both bands have the occasional good riff or melody, but thats not enough to save them. theres nothing memorable to it. listening to the same rubbish over and over again wont make me change my mind.

I like both Saosin and Circa Survive. They both have nice lyrics and unique vocals. However, I do think that Saosin has gone downhill with their new ablum. Cove doesn't quite do as good a job as Anthony Green, and it just sounds a bit misplaced. Also Anthony Green was a much better songwriter, because some of the lyrics on the new album are dull and cliche. I especially despise the song on the new album where he sings "your not alone, i'm telling you this i know" like some gay guy from a boy band. There are some salvagable parts of it though, and it is OK, but didn't meet my expectations by far. I'd give their new album a 6/10, the old stuff was awesome 8/10.

As for Circa Survive, the only thing I miss is Anthony's screaming. Other than that, I like how that band is doing. Some of their good songs are: In Fear and Faith, Stop the ****in' Car, and of course Act Appalled.

LOL

I've listened to plenty of Saosin as a matter of fact. I've listened to at least 95% of their songs at least 2-3 times because my friend Dan is really into them. I've been spinning Seven Years since 2004ish.

i love circa survive.

i hate saosin. just because i dont like what you do doesnt mean i havent listened to it. i have their ep and i downloaded their new album because they had potential. They just didnt do anything with it. Their musicianship, while skilled is uninteresting because i have heard all those riffs before. I have heard those double bass pedals. They dont do it for me because they just sound like everyone else. They waited to long to release music and now its all been done already

that was an awesome reply. I agree, they took way too long to release an album, and i'll add on top of that cove's lyrics are crap half of the cd is "i never wanted to" or "we are the only ones" i had all their ep's and b sides before they went to capitol and I still like a lot of the music and coves melodic ideas... take "it's so simple", for example, once again crap lyrics but everything besides that is awesome.

i really like circa survive too, when i first heard juturna i was blown away, green's vocal melodies do get kinda boring after a while though, i think their next cd will be awesome if he really uses all of his range not just the high notes.

Every band that came after them.

just because they were the first doesn't mean everyone that sounded like that after them listened to them or ever heard of them for that matter, and really if you're saying grade (a ****ty underground canadian band) influenced saosin (a huntington beach band that just formed only a few years ago)... you really are a moron

cobert
11-08-2006, 03:39 PM

Seeing as Grade was around in about 1998 and Saosin came around in about 2002, and plenty of popcore bands list Grade as an influence....

What, do you think Saosin started all of this or something? So what if they were influenced by Grade, it shouldnt make them any less of a band in your opinion.

B
11-08-2006, 03:41 PM
just because they were the first doesn't mean everyone that sounded like that after them listened to them or ever heard of them for that matter

I never said it was because they came first.

Bands have specifically cited in interviews that Grade was the biggest influence for that particular type of music.

Even if a band hasn't heard of them, they would have been influenced by bands that were directly influenced by Grade.

cadencethefire
11-08-2006, 03:47 PM

11-08-2006, 03:48 PM
That's alright, as long as you kind of believe they had a major part in forming modern pop-punk type bands.

cadencethefire
11-08-2006, 03:55 PM
yeah i get what you guys are saying now, though it's kind of hard to believe that something like that influences all pop punk/ pop rock bands... i wish there was a way to physically trace it, like an evolutionary tree or something

edit:

sorry to come off as an asshole with my first post in this thread too, i should have thought about what kind of reactions i'd get from an offensive post like that. I want to make it clear though, i don't think any less of anyone for not liking saosin, but it's best if you ARE going to say you don't like a band that you give good reason, otherwise it just sounds like you don't know what you're talking about.

B
11-08-2006, 04:18 PM
They aren't good no, but I think Metallica sucks as well and I don't deny their influence. Same with pretty much every influencial band, really.

cadencethefire
11-08-2006, 04:34 PM
but to be that influencial of a band you have to be well known... metallica's huge, so it's easy to understand that they're an influence on just about every metal band that ever was after them...

same thing with the beatles, nirvana and so on

i don't want you to think i'm trying to counter your argument just know that there's more proof for those bands than there is for grade and it would help me better understand if there were more proof...

no it's not good enough proof just because they were doing it a long time ago doesn't mean they set any kind of standard or influenced any band for that matter. If you don't have proof for such a statement then it's a little hard to swallow, get what i'm saying?? You can't just trace an entire genre back to one band honestly, making music like that is REALLY simple and i belive blink was also doing 4/4 major progressions earlier than grade. So here's what it comes down to: no one band can claim any kind of influence over any genre ever.
