so yah we won battle of the bands at two of the members' high school, the previous school (when we were freshman) we won the battle of the bands at my school. so this is the 2nd BOTB in a row weve won : ) im not gettin a big head or anything, im just real happy about it, especialy since there was this band "the waking hour", theyr rediculously cocky, they literally said right to me online"were gonna wipe the floor with the bands at battle of the bands" lol at my schools, we came in 1st, they came in second, at this one, we came in first, they came in 4th lol it was funny. we played 2 originals and a 'metalfied' backstreet boys cover (larger than life) lol it was so cool. well im done, sorry if this thread is pointless, but im just real excited. cheers bretheren :chug:

Congrats. My old band used to have mixed success at BOTB's. There's always a big element of luck, however going last always helps i find. In the three we played in:
BOTB1: Big one in 2004, lost in the first round (first on of four bands)
BOTB2: Small one in 2004, won the first round (went on last of five), then came second in the final (of four bands - we played second) - we deserved second!
BOTB3: Reentered the first one for 2005, won the first round (went on 4th of 4), then won the final (played 3rd of 4)
Two in a row, pretty damn good!
yah it was a lot of fun. what was really funny was that 'the waking hour' was playing and they were like "ok everyone stand up come on" and no one stood up, literally not 1 person, they were like "come on dont be scared you can stand up, i promise if just one person stands up, more will stand up" lol and no one stood up, so then i stood up to show a little courtesy and make em feel better, and a few other people stood up, then they started playing, and they all sat back down. haha it was great. but i was nice, i wasnt mean to them, i shook theyr hand and told them they did a good job.

yah theres another one at my school may 21st, wed sure love it if we won again, but i dont know, there are some good bands, hopfully well win but i dont know

Thats awesome man, glad to hear you weren't a dick to them, and are not cocky after winning two. I hope you nail the third one.
^thanks man. it was really kool our first win, because we were freshman, and when we came out, everyone like expected us to be this power chord playing punk band, and we definatly were not lol, everyone was expectin the uperclassmen to win, we were the underdogs, thats why it was so kool

I've been in two, and we blew both times.
Well, not really, we were generally good, but there were instances which ruined the whole thing.
At the first one, we got booed like crazy at the end of our last song because I extended the drum solo way too long because I was waiting for our retarted guitarist to give the cue.
The second time, that same guy couldn't remember the lyrics to "fire" and was a whole count off the entire song, and couldn't even fix it.
Why am I still in this band? Oh well, I'm looking for a new one right now.

Man, at my local botb, the uber cocky t'wats won and their friends bands came 2nd and 3rd. Could they have made the fact that it was fixed any more obvious? Also they were too old to enter this competition, so I went to tell the judges (to complain and try get one over on the winners) and they said they can't do anything about it now (bullshiz!!!) So my band and the judges started talking and they said the winning bands sucked anyway!!! I thought, why the fun make em win then you prinks?
Yeah, sorry I'm bitter, glad TS had more luck with kicking some cocky a'ss!!!
Congrats hey, nothing is more inspiring than to be held above other bands, particularly respected and revered ones!
Now let me throw the reality at you. The comp you just won - It means nothing. It doesnt mean your band is good, or even that its better than the bands you "beat". When you charge a fee at the door and people pay it to see you, then the career of the band starts. Its a tough road, 99% of the time you wont get the sort of response you may have got at the band comp, and most night onstage youll be a backing band for people to drink beer to. Applause is a bonus.
^This is in no way trying to shout down the small win youve just had, but I see too many young bands get on their high-horse after winning BOTB comps and totally screw up their sense of direction. (they feel as though theyve already 'made it' because 10 kids at school remember who they were the following week) Keep your heads on straight (especially your singer) and the sky is the limit.

The big BOTB's here is usually rigged, because a local record company will sponser it, and it's generally the band which belongs to the company will win it...

Because Damo knows what the hell he's talking about. He's been around the block enough times. It was definitally needed.
why was it needed? never did i say "we won so were the best band in the area" i know were not the best, i never said that, if i had, then it might be needed, but theres no reason to bring up the negative side of a good thing.

Dude I think message is: "congrats, you won but keep focused and continue the way you were as though botb never even happened." Its realistic advice, not a negative comment.

You need to read my post again. The reason I didnt just say 'dont get cocky' is because cocky people never think they are.
I also never suggested your band was bad - its just that winning a band comp is no indication that you are, in fact a good band.
Or simply read Retarded Chipples post above, he summed it up perfectly.
