I play the marching snare in the adv. band in my school and Ive noticed that after i play, the bottom tension rods tend to loosen up and they are tighened up pretty well. So does anyone know why this happends?

Use some vaseline or petroleum jelly on your rods. It'll hold them in place.

It used to happen to my high tom. You can buy a special blue paint that you blob on the thread then tighten it up. It holds it securely but when you turn it with a drum key the paint kinda flakes off. its un-noticeable and designed originally for aircraft screws.
