new ride or new hats...?

Christmas is coming up, and my dad offered to get my something nice for my drums so I don't have to pay for it with my own money (as I'm taking a year off school to save for things). I narrowed it down to a new pair of hats or a new ride. They're essentially the same price, I just need to figure out which I should choose. Any thoughts?

i would go with new hi-hats, but it really depends what you need the most(like what needs to be replaced)

I would go for whatever one you use the most. Unless of course one or the other sounds alot better in which you would replace the worst one first.

To me, hats don't sound hugely different from a decent set of hats to a professional pair. I'd get a ride.

all Istanbul 13" hats and 20" rides are, or should be exactly the same price as istanbul charges purely by size.

I know i'd get the hats first. Even though both my ride and hats are paiste 302's, and i use my ride more than my hats probably, the reason i use my ride so much is because i detest the sound of my hats.

i'd buy a new ride because they're isn't too much difference to me in hi hats but there is a huge difference from ride cymbal to ride cymbal

Which do you use more? It makes far more sense to me to replace the item you use more i.e. the more important. Figure that out; then go to your local drum store and try out everything in your price range. Take a friend along to play them while you stand back and listen: that sometimes helps you to get a better feel of the sound.

You must be kidding. Hats are like any other cymbals, each different brand and make is different from the other.

The part that makes my decision so tough is that they're both B8 cymbals. The hi-hats are 14" B8 and, actually, my ride is an 18" B8 "crash/ride". So I have no idea...

Replace the ride. You will find that nearly everyone on here likes B8 hats. Lots of people keep them after purchasing pro hats for aux hats.

b8 rides are chill.
There was a block party.
And the drummer had the weirdest cymbals ever.
B8 ride, b8 pro hats, and 3 splashs.

the splashs were pretty pro, but those hats and rides didn't sound that bad.
