Ok, so last week, Bob Mintzer came to my school and gave a masterclass.
Long story short, I was called up to play drums with my combo with him.

We played "Tune Up" and he improvised for a while, and it was extremely fun.

So, that was my excitement for the week.

Oh yeah, it's good to be back after a long hiatus. I've been spending a **** ton of time this past semester on my technique, especially grip, and learning the melodies to many jazz standards.
How's everyone doing?

[edit]for those who don't know. Bob Mintzer is a world famous saxophonist/arranger. He worked with Buddy Rich for a long time and is the leader of the Yellow Jackets.

Sounds like a bitchin fun time

Wish I had cool musicians visit my school so I could groove. Course I also wish I was more accepted in the band hall. Everyoneone thinks I'm to punk rock, which Im not afraid to admit I'm not.

Mintzer also had his own big band for a while.......put out a few recordings. We did some of his arrangements way back when I was in college. I'm sure it was a great experience!

Awsome!!! Sounded like a blast, I played with my famous greek singers son a couple of weeks ago but it was just playing a toumberleki for one song, I could imagine how much fun and what a good expeicence you had improvising along with a world famous guy.

Nice, moogoo. Good to see you back on the forums. I love Mintzer and the Yellowjackets! You should've thanked him for playing on the Play along tracks on The Art of Bop Drumming CD.:)

I stumbled onto this one and regardless of how bad the cover was, I just sat, jaw slighly open, drool slowly dripping from the corner of my mouth, mesmerized by them; two minutes later I realized I'd watched the entire thing.

C'mon... you know you wanna Rep+ me... just do it.. it'll feel good.
