I personally can't wait for it's worldwide release, the reviews after its first showing at the Venice Film Festival were positive indeed and i heavily anticipate it now. It's been described as loopier then both Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive, the cast having no idea what the purpose of their roles were during shooting and David Lynch improvising the script as he shot it.

Should be interesting no doubt.

Just take one look at my avatar.

Anyway, I'm sick to my stomach with excitement for this.

I haven't read a thing about the plot, and don't want to. I want to go in fresh. So if you have a post to make about the plot or you've seen the movie, please, label your post with SPOILER or something.

Yeah i had an idea you'd be posting in here Kage

I share the same feelings and i loath spoilers. I have read a basic overview of the plot but it is vague at best.

Yeah I venture in here from time to time.

I find that I always am impacted more by movies if I go in not knowing anything about it. For example, my first "Lynch experience" was with Mulholland Drive--a completely blind rental because the cover image on the DVD looked cool. I had no idea it even existed, and didn't know anything about it. I was completely blown away.

Then there's the other end of things. Like I read a lot about The Departed before it came out, and I was slightly dissapointed; even though I loved the movie itself, I was expecting something that it wasn't.

Anyway, I'm eagerly awaiting my opportunity to see this. I have to see some Lynch on the big screen or else I'll probably die.

Man you must be the only person on the planet besides myself who treats movies that way. I swear everyone i know finds out everything they possibly can about any given movie they want to see then they get disappointed when watching it. Rep'd.

What? I hate it when people do that.

I can't wait for this, it's gonna be brilliant.

Oh, and I still haven't seen MD yet. lame.

You've got to see it. :)

This is getting a limited release December 15th, but I have no idea how limited. I know cities like LA and Boston are getting early screenings.

I know I have to see it. But it's never on.

Maybe I should just get it on DVD.

We watched Mulholland Drive in class and that was my first Lynch experience, it left me disturbed for a number of weeks. I put it off for a long time, trust me you should watch it. Even those who hated it had something to discuss.

Like the definitive Lynch statement. You can't be unaffected by his movies, whether you liked them or not.

That's partly what makes them so great.

My first Lynch experience was Wild At Heart. It's pretty cool.

That's the site of the company that's going to be distributing Inland Empire.

My question is, could they have less information on there?

Yeah, sounds like a nice class. I'm going to be going into film in college so I will hopefully get a similar opportunity.

Okay, here we go. I don't know how definitive this is, but it's something:

Theatrical Releases [for INLAND EMPIRE] :
December 7, 2006 (Slovakia)
December 15, 2006 (USA) (limited release)
December 29, 2006 (USA) (wide theatrical release)
December 29, 2006 (Finland)
January, 2007 (Italy)
January 11, 2007 (Germany)
February 7, 2007 (France)
March 29, 2007 (Netherlands)
April 7, 2007 (Japan)
July 5, 2007 (Russia)
July 12, 2007 (Czech Republic)

I have no earthly idea why it's coming out in Slovakia first. But just hope if you're in the U.S. that a theater near you gets it in the limited release!

Why is it called inland empire?

I happen to live in an area called Inland Empire... so im curious as to why its titled that.

Kage

Well it has to do with that area in one way or another...but I can't say exactly why it's called that because a great deal of it was shot in Europe.

Meatplow - I haven't found any info on an Australian release, but I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Excellent question. If I knew I'd answer. Everything is so up in the air right now, it's driving me crazy.

I was excited when I was directed to that link, only to realize the content of the site isn't up yet. Still, if you're interested in this movie, I'd check back to that site for release dates and trailers and other kickass tidbits they should be putting up in the near future.

Speaking of that, I haven't even seen hints at a trailer.

I don't know anything about David Lynch but this sounds cool. Hopefully I can interest at least a friend or two...most of my friends aren't into stuff like this.

Gah, the site is up now: http://www.inlandempirecinema.com

Looks like I'm gonna have to wait until January and hike it up to Austin to see it.

It says absolutely nothing about foreign dates, though. =-\
