i have a SSS setup on my strat at the moment

i want to buy a set of HSS pikups n fit them

do i just wire them in where the old pickups were or does the humbucker need wiring differently?

usually it's about the same, maybe with 1 more hot signal wire, which you could either wire together with the other or wire it to another switch position (i think).

a 2 conductor has 2 wires coming out of the pickup, hot and ground

a 4 conductor has 4 or 5

One of the three wires is the coil tap which you can just not use, but you have to figure out which one it is. If you can tell which wire is actually two wires connected together, that's the coil tap. Or you can find it with an ohm meter, got one?

is there another way to find out which wire is which

there is a red a white and a bare braid

The shield (braid) should be the (-) side. Without an ohm meter, first thing I would do is go the the manufacturer's website or google the pickup model and manufacturer. Or go buy a cheap DMM, probably can get one for like $10. Last choice would be just mount it and hook it up and try playing, whichever wire makes it louder is the right one. The quieter wire would be the coil tap.

Well, there's two coils in the pup (it's a humbucker). The tap is where the two are connected together. This allows you to do series, parallel, or single coil.
