View Full Version : Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
So I saw about this game in a Top 10 scariest games on YouTube, and it really interested me. The idea of sanity effects that break the fourth wall and are done to simply put off the player is just amazing.
Has anyone else played it? I'm actually considering getting a cheap Gamecube anyway, so would it be worth grabbing as well?

Looked interesting, but I never got around to picking it up so now I'll probably never play it. It got a 9.4 from those biased ****s on Gamespot, though. It's only $13 on amazon though, worth trying out I suppose.

Great game. One of my favorite GC games.
Very effing creepy. Definately freaked me out more than most of the resident evils thats for sure.:thumb:
The psychological effects are so screwed up. When your sanity gets really low, theres a point where you can hear a baby crying and then chopping noises. Its so screwed up. Some of the sanity effects are really funny, but then some of them are really screwed up. Very good game, I highly suggest you pick it up.
I saw it. Isn't there a bit where you can save it, and instead of asking to overwrite your save game, it says "Do you wish to delete all your game saves on this memory card?"
A Wii sequel could be interesting too.

Yup it does. Theres a lot of cool things when your sanity is low. If you leave the game just running without any touching of the controller, SUPPOSEDLY Pious(the skeleton guy) will pop up in a screamer style. Never tried it though, I hate screamers.
And I doubt there will be since silicon knights isnt with nintendo anymore. :(

This game is hands down easily in the top 3 for Gamecube. The sanity effects are great.
One time my sanity got really low and a volume bar came up on the TV and the meter descended and there was no sound. I spent like 10 minutes looking for the remote but then I realized it was just the game ****ing with me.
It's one sick game.

Yeah great game its actually quite fun to play through more than once to because you can unlock a bunch of cool features. Sanity effects make the game a game though. Personal favourite is either seeing people being hung all around a room or the ceiling bleeding. Definitely A+ stuff here.

By today's standards as apposed to 5 years ago, its not very scary anymore but few games now are remotely like it. Its a survival horror semi-RE type game. Once you get a hang of the gameplay you start to easily beat the first few eras, but once you get further you start to go insane all the time. Its made by the same people who are making Too Human, Silicon Knights and is worth small bit of money its selling for now, if only to see what the insanity effects do to you.

Gonna be waiting for a long time though. They have to finish Too Human first as well as its two sequels, followed by any sequel to Eternal Darkness.

Eternal Darkness was awesome. Unlike games like The Wind Waker, it actually brought something new to the table. The sanity thing was a genius idea as it actually freaked me out in some instances. Being able to play as different characters in different eras also increased the coolness of the game. One of the best gamecube games easily.

What do you mean the Wind Waker brought nothing new? Have you even played it or were you just staring at the wall the entire time. Get over it, Wind Waker did more for adventure games then you can possibly imagine and did so even more by being a cartoon.

Wind Waker is the only console Zelda game that I disliked so much I never beat it. (Made it to the part where you go under the water.) Beside that point, what did wind waker add beyond ocarina?

I love this game, especially when the bugs start crawling on your screen, or when it starts to tilt.

Cel shading-although it wasn't the first game with cel shading, it was one of the first who did it in a unique way.
Story-first zelda with an interesting story rather than a just the typical zelda story.
Dynamic music-I thought it was pretty cool that the music changed as you attacked enemies
Those are just some things that stood out that ocarina didn't have. You seriously didnt like wind waker, but you liked adventure of link(nes)?
Ocarina is still my favorite game of all time.:thumb:

I guess I wasn't clear. When I said that Wind Waker didn't bring anything new to the table, I meant the gameplay aspect. In that respect:
Cel shading-although it wasn't the first game with cel shading, it was one of the first who did it in a unique way.
-Graphics are graphics. I still play old school NES games. This has never been something I've cared about.
Story-first zelda with an interesting story rather than a just the typical zelda story.
-Holy crap! Gannon isn't the badguy? I don't remember what the story was, so it must not have interested me too much. Perhaps you could remind me?
Dynamic music-I thought it was pretty cool that the music changed as you attacked enemies
-Not really a leap forward...
Those are just some things that stood out that ocarina didn't have. You seriously didnt like wind waker, but you liked adventure of link(nes)?
-All I got to say about this is "I am Error." In all seriousness, Zelda would benefit from going back to a "leveling up" system.
Ocarina is still my favorite game of all time.:thumb:Have you every played Secret of Mana?

Gannon is the bad guy, but like Ocarina of Time, he's Ganandorf.
-Not really a leap forward...
I dont know what game you played but if the only thing you took out of Wind Waker was that the "wind thing was annoying," you missed out on a seriously new type of adventure game.
-All I got to say about this is "I am Error." In all seriousness, Zelda would benefit from going back to a "leveling up" system.
But that's not a typical Zelda game, leveling up is for True RPGs, Zelda is something so much different. Look at this one had. It had a postal service. Wandering shops, a day/night system which would change everything that happens on that particular day. Even the Ghost ship would come out during a crescent moon. Just the little things that happened in this game. Its free roaming the likes that even GTA cant match. The Wind Waker took what the last 3 games in the series had and made it so much more epic so much more interactive.
Have you every played Secret of Mana?
What about it? Spouting random RPGs doesn't mean they are any better then others. Chrono Trigger.

M.A.K.: My main problem with TWW was the boat system. It was terribly tedious. Can you really deny that? Other than that, it WAS a good game. I just think it is quite a bit overrated. Another big issue I have with ALL Zelda games is that the basic setup is this: find sword, find bombs, find bow, find boomerang, find hookshot, find better sword, beat game. (More than anything I'm playing Devil's Advocate here, so there is no need to get upset.)
Also, the reason I said "Secret of Mana" was because the battle system is similar to the way the pre-N64 zelda games were. It expanded on that and added something new. (More advanced magic system, AI or player controlled teammates, more advanced item/equipment system, etc etc)
Master Arkam Kannon

That's understandable then if you didn't like the boat system, many didn't. My grievance was that you seemed to be saying that the game didnt add anything or wasn't an important step in adventure story telling games. All Zelda games are overrated but only because they were the first to do something new. Most take what we know in adventure RPG and completely twist it on a strange axis that no one expected. No one would have expected Ocarina of Time after Link to the Past, why mess with a formula that was perfect. But that's what Zelda does, it doesn't repeat the same old formula. Sure, it basically get this fight that, but there's so much more to it then that. Zelda is a game of puzzles and each time you figure out a puzzle you get a prize basically, Items are your reward. When you simply something so vaguely that's basically what all games do, find this, fight that.
I'm not saying your wrong to not like it, but don't use the same argument of the wind system that everyone else has. Remember Zelda is about finding peace in a world of chaos, sailing on a boat just has a Zen like peace to it at times. Plus once you get the Ballad of the Gales, you can skip most of the sailing if you'd like. Play it again, and try to enjoy it without hating the wind.
