IT would sound nice! But EMG have weird connecters that only allow connection to other EMG products, IE a preamp.

If you like the EMG tone then I do not see a reason why you should not.

My only concern would be if you are going for active EMG pickups whick might require you needing to make allowances for changing the wiring to compensate for another battery for the pickups.

true, but there is alot of room in the cavity, and i didnt know they made the jazz pickups active?

To the best of my knowledge all EMG pickups are active except for their HZ series.

As far as I know, the MECs are active too (well, the ones in my Thumb damn sure were!) so there wouldnt be that much re-wiring to be done.

And here is what a Thumb with EMGs sounds like

(ignore the first 30 seconds of wank, the rest is really well done)

Wow, I really didn't appreciate his tone in the slightest.

Threadstarter, if that is what you want to do, I don't see why you should be hesitant about it! Like it has been mentioned before, though, I think you would have to swap out the preamp for an EMG preamp, but I am not quite sure about this. I am not too knowledgeable in the electronics department. :p

warwicks have active preamps, least in the thumb because it has the active passive switch which shuts the preamp off

Yeah, for EMG PUPs, you need an EMG Preamp due to their Quick Connect system. :(

So you'd need to route out a new preamp. Well, you'd just have to buy an EMG one and plop it in, really.

Secondly, passive pickups, active pickups, passive electronics, and active electronics are different.

Passive is pretty well understood; no batteries, natural vintagy sound, etc.

Active electronics =/= active pickups

Active electronics = onboard eq

Active PUPs = the PUPs themselves are active

EMG Hz are passive but they look active because of the black casing. That doesn't mean the PUPs are active because they're not. They're passive.

I believe most MECs are passive.

I was just led to believe that MEC pickups were active because mine were, although, like everything, they could be different

I have a Warwick Streamer with two EMG's in it, and they're definately passive pickups. They're good for slap and pop but I wouldn't recommend them if you're looking for something with any power behind it.
