ill try not to ramble.

i defretted a beater bass and i love it, but its crap and its missing 2 strings haha.
i bought a Cort Artisian A6 and i love it.
now i want a 6 string fretless that wont be way different then what i have now.

-catch is well.. theres alot of catches....

It NEEDs to be: Neck-thru, insane sustain, 24 frets, natural-looking wood, -near mint condition, less than $1000ish, fast neck, well balanced(dont care about weight), over all a beautiful bass to look at.

Id LIKE it to have: pups that are like the Bartolini mk1 (active), if all possible to come fretless w/ ebony fret board. I could always change the pups myself. I COULD make a new nut of either brass or bone if the sustain susks and maybe new bridge, but thats getting kinda rediculous.

-I would love a thor bass but its just too much. Thor bass = dream bass
-It just seem that custom built is out of the question.
-I would get another Cort A6 but i want something a little different.
-I was thinking a Peavey Grind and upgrading it a bit (pups) but ive played one and i just didnt like the feel.
-i have also thought about Ibanez, Carvin, and other peavys but the price/availibility is a problem.
-others that i cant think about: Overwater, Pedulla, Fodera, Stambaugh, WishBass, Winters.

once upon a time i was on a web site that did professional de-fretting but i cant seem to find it anymore and they did much better work than what i could do. i was wondering if anyone knows of this site or one like it. just incase i have to get one that is fretted.

Also, I've heard that there are luthiers out there that specifically make 6 string neck thru basses with out all the hardware and electronics. leaving you to decide what woods to use and design. Anybody know of a site that makes high quality basses like that for roughly <$600?

I do realize that if i want something that specific i pretty much have to go custom and fork over the money. but i dont want to. so thats why i talk with you folk first haha.

Recomendation? Info? Links? Questions? please give me some feedback. thanks

One of the guys on here recently posted a thread with his latest build.

He might be worth while to check out.

Hit up one of our users, Jeronimofesto he custom builds basses, and they look to be amazing works of art. http://www.jcbasses.com I know he has a few people in line so it may be a while before he could build you one, but I'm sure he would be happy to help.

Umm, try out some yamaha trb's. Left Shoe would be about to help you there he has three of them and one for sale.

Edit: Beat by ebe9.... :(

Replied to your request and it isn't totally out of your price range either.

"Just for fun" I went over the numbers. The way I build it's about like this (for a 6 string):

pickups $150
electronics $120
tuners $80
bridge $100
fingerboard $50
neck wood $120
body wood $150
truss rods $40
misc $?

These are rough numbers for parts for a semi-hollowbody 6-string neck thru :(

Add 100 to 200 hours labor and you can see why I charge between $1500 and $2000.

This neck has $160 of Ebony in it...

Yeah that is how much you have to charge with the cost of parts and wood and the amount of time that goes into it. Sweet finish by the way.

You need more money, sell current basses/un used amps or something, then maybe you can start looking into custom builds, of which there are plenty of choices for you. Custom is really what you need.

you might be lucky and find a used conklin although it will be seven string and most likely bolt on
