So im looking to upgrade from my Behringer Ultrabass BX600 to something thats "show" worthy ^_^. So i have a few options.

Ampeg SVT15E Enclosure ($400)
Ampeg B410HE 4X10 Speaker Cabinet ($450)

or

Ampeg SVT-410HLF Classic Series Bass Cabinet ($700)
and just forget about the 1x15 Speaker Cab'

and to power it all

Gallien-Krueger 700RB-II Bass Head ($600)

which of those two would have the better overall sound / tonal diversity? (its probably the first one, but everyone raves about the SVT so much around here). also if u have any comments / suggestions on how i could save some $$$ or other possibilities for amps please comment. thanks

can i ask why you're limiting yourself to ampeg?

EDIT: why you seem to be limiting yourself. i don't wanna make assumptions.

I own that same Gk head and I'm going to tell your right now that there is nothing better for that price. As far as cabs are concered i played the GK head through an Ampeg 410, GK Neo 410, Harke 410's and finally an SWR and i personally like the SWR the best the mids are so awsome. The Ampeg was more geared to the low and the Harke's sucked balls.

well from reviews / what i've played on Ampeg always seems to be top notch quility. plus i think just about all bands i've seen play through ampeg bass cabs.

Two things:

Don't trust reviews online (at least 95% of them)

and

DO NOT go off of popularity.

What type of a tone are you trying to accomplish?

i want a diverse array of tones to choose from but my ideal tone would be a mix between the bass on Day of the Baphomets by The Mars Volta, Understanding in a Car Crash by Thursday, and Charlie by Red Hot Chili Peppers if thats descriptive enough...its hard to explain in words...

Diverse aray of tones? DON'T get an Ampeg. Also don't get Ampeg if you want the most for your money.

The cabs can't handle anything over their overrated power rating too well.

Overpriced.

well juan from tmv and the bassist of thursday both use ampegs.... and i've heard so many abd things about Hartke's, and the GK lower ends are supposed to be not that good aswell.

I have a really good idea, and it goes like this:

Go down to your local music store, and then proceed to try everything out!

Voila!:amaze:

Thats exactly what I was going to say. You can't really go to wrong with the Ampegs but I think if you look around you might find another brand that you like just as much or more for a similar price. Ampegs are not the be all and end all of bass amplification.

The Ampeg pro cabs are pretty sweet, big power handling. Way big heavy and expensive though.

I don't know whether these are in your price range or not but Epifani, Schroeder, MarkBass, Genz Benz Neo, Gallien Krueger. Not too sure but Bergantino (sp?) and Aguilar might be lighter. These companies are supposed to make great cabs but as always tone is subjective. Personally I like my Schroeder but its not everyone's cup of tea.

Schroeder would be most peoples cup of tea methinks.

Markbass are incredibly light, and I've only ever heard good things about thier tone.
Mainly from Criss

Hello, I'm Criss, just heard my name mentioned and thought I'd drop in...

MARKBASS MARKBASS MARKBASS. Is pretty much all I can say.

Lightweight, GREAT tone, plenty of volume. I love my 4x10. And everyone's always totally amazed at how light it is..23kg. I've been carrying it unaided up and down a ladder to get to my band's practice room (the studio hasn't got a staircase yet). Just try and do that with an Ampeg.

The RRP for my 104HR 4x10 cab is $2000AUD, but I got mine cheaper because I got it in a deal with my amp head. I'm not sure where you're from so I can't convert the currency (if you're not in Aus). Sorry I dont' have any soundclips, but check out their website, http://http://www.markbass.it/products.php?lingua=en it might have some helpful info.
