Older stuff maybe, new defiantly pop-punk i would say.

This thread is just gonna cause arguments tbh.

Rancid has always been kinda pop-punk.

Doesn't make them bad. Doesn't even make them less punk. Everyone has bills to pay.

^ Maybe they're not doing it for bills but rather because they like the music.

I know that's not what you were saying but I figured I'd throw it out there.

Rancid is very poppy-punk but I dunno if pop-punk is the right genre.

Yup. Good point. I really do think they enjoy what they are playing these days. I also agree they aren't quite pop-punk, but AOCTW was a pop album as far as I am concerned. Doesn't make it bad or anything, because it's not easy to "master" those pop hooks they always seem to come up with.

I don't like them anymore, but I would never say they suck.

But then again, is it only me who thinks Rancid (2000) is very un-pop?

The new stuff is pop-punk.
Old stuff I would hazard a guess to be rasping rough edge punk mate,.

Rancid 2000(and 1993 while I'm at it) is definetly not pop punk.

Let's Go was an excellent album through and through as well. It's the one I listen to most even still. That and the 93 release. Both of those albums are solid and still fun to listen to.

2000 is an awful album, so whether or not it's poppy has no bearing. In my humble opinion of course.

Rancid 2000 isnt that bad.... it's just different than the random rancid sound. i like it much more than clash ripoff albums like indestructible and life wont wait.

Let's go is definetly their best though, so many good songs and so little filler

they're a punk band.
but they play pop-punk most of the time.

2000 is quality. one of my favourites.

I don't really think rancid would fall under pop, I love rancid but lets face it tim armstrong does not have a pop voice.

Rancid wasn't really pop-punk when they started, but they have evolved slowly closer to being pop-punk. But I think that, like Gav said, right now you can't really fit them into a subgenre. They are punk, whether it's pop punk or not. As bands get more famous, they usually will either become more poppy (see Indestructable and ...And Out Come the Wolves) or try too hard to not be popular and end up making some album that is way out there (see 2000 and Life Won't Wait).

Personally, I like Life Won't Wait the best, followed closely by Let's Go. They both have incredible songs throughout most of the album.

Punk and Pop Punk are the same thing so it doesn't really matter.

There is actually. Think before you try and sound intelligent. Fag.

lunchforthesky

not many.

they both play simple power chord stuff, but lyrics are singing are different as is tempo.

maybe if you had intelligence yourself you could make a point not make pathetic insults about people being gay.

They both repeat similar lines, such as the chorus, as in most pop-punk and punk. They both use simple instrumental lines, although Simple Plan's is much more so, the only real oustanding part of rancid is the bass. And not even all the time.

I love how you felt you had to neg rep me for statiing my opinion too ****tard

Rancid? I thought we were talking Dead Kennedys and Simple Plan?

There are a few minor similarities... but nothing to shout about tbh. Calling someone a fag didn't really achieve much either.

Aha shows how much i remember.

Wait what the hell this thread is supposed to be about Rancid anyways.

Cool. The same thing I said applies even more then. Rancid is more complex than DK.

Um so? The lyrics and singing within the same genres are always different. If every band had the same singing and the same lyrics, it would be a pretty bland genre don't you think?

I can easily make a point, I can make a better argument when I'm stoned as hell than half the people here when they're sober.

I hate coming back here from being high and having to defend myself from tools. Now I remember why I left before.
