Does anyone know of any ompanies other than Marshall who make 4x12 speaker cabs?
Has anyone ever played thru one? What do they sound like? Could they handle a low B, or is the speaker size not good enough? How do they handle highs for slapping and popping?
I'm seriously considering selling my 1x15, 2x10 and 4x10 and just getting a 4x12, as long as it hold well with a low B
Thanks for replies

Mesa Boogie! Powerhouse and Roadready.

Also Schroeder do a 4x12. And that WOULD handle the low B. No idea about the Boogie though.

I was thinking like Hartke/GK/Peavey etc.
I'd love a Schroeder, but unfortunately the ££ wouldn't like that

Then the Mesa probably isn't a good idea either.....................

Peavey made a 4x12 tvx. I believe it was loaded with sheffield 12s. From everything I've read this cab is extremely punchy and deep. It's biggest "downside" is it's weight. Search the internet, there's lots of info if you look for it

Ebay my friend. I've seen a bunch of 4x12s for bass float around in there.

Aguilar, Schroeder, SWR, Mesa, Peavey... For some reason I seem to recall Epifani making one.
What about two 8 ohm 2x12's? There are TONS of 2x12's out there that you could pair together.

Why do you think you need 12" speakers? Plenty of people do B with 10"s.

i dont find the 4x12s hold a low B any better than a decent 4x10 but most the 4x12s ive tried seem to be really loud to me!
the swr one is a goodun!

I was going to recommend the Mesa/Boogie.
I looked into the Mesa 1000 and it comes with four 10"'s and one 15" in a single case. I liked the thought of that. I know the bassist for the Black Dahlia Murder, Bart Williams, uses one and it is loud. He also tunes to C standard, so that would hold the B really well.
I know that isn't what you asked, and you have probably looked at it before, but everyone already recommended everything that I was going to say. :p

Although B's are lower than Cs, no?
Hiwatt also do a 4x10 and 1x15 combined, it's so bitching.

Yeah, a B is lower than a C by a semitone. :p They also tune down, so, since it can handle the C, I would assume it would be able to handle a B as well seeing as they are only a semitone apart.

i know mesa handles a low b well enough for the guy from chevelle (8x10 i think). also, by ashdown 4x10 handles a low b just fine, even with the floppiest string. the only thing i can't vouch for are anything smaller than 8" (never tried my combo loud with a low b), but i doubt you'd want 8" speakers.

Phil Jones 5" speaker arrays hold up to a low B with gusto. In fact, they out perform most 8's, 10's, 12's, 15's, 18's, 21's.... sigh.... you get my point :D

They are big to have the proper tuning frequency. ALL cabinets are engineered to sound there best at a few specific frequencies.
Check out the Talkbass amp section for any amount of time, and youll learn a lot.

true, but i've seen 4x12s with smaller bodies that sound good too.

it's tuning for the speakers. all speakers are designed differently.

This is probobly an issue of ported vs. sealed.

I'm looking into a second hand Trace 4x12, 8ohms, so I could always pair it with a 1x15
