Well, I just need some quick advice

Out of these amps/this pricerange of amps, what would the best be? Forgive my ignorance of not being able to give you a better description of what I want, but at this time, I'm not sure in what direction my bass playing would go.

Second question:
Does Schecter make good quality basses?
Particularly this one, the Custom 4:

Thanks gices

Schecter does make good quality basses, and the only amp I have played on that list was the SWR LA15, and I didn't like it in the slightest.

Out of the amps? Personally (from my current experience of playing through them everyday) I would go with the Ashdown.

And do Schecters make good basses? Does a bear **** in the woods! The Custom 4 is a very nice bass. Jamie will certainly agree!

Haha, thanks.

I can name the top 5 guitar amp manufactures off the top of my head, but I have no clue wether a Trace Elliot is better than a Squier practice amp.

Not really, but damn close to it :p.

Also, if those amps are really that bad, could you reccomend a nice one?

I'd go Schecter + Ashdown, though the only other amp I've tried was the Fender and I hated it.

First off I don't recomend you get an EB series Ashdown. I owned one before and well the tone was good at low volumes the combo over drived way to easily and you couldn't really get that classic Ashdown tone. I can't comment on the Ashdown 5:15 becuase i haven't ever played that one before. As for the other amps on hte page the Fender Rumble although a bit heavy has a nice tone. Keep in mind that 100watts of guitar and 100watts of bass are very very different. None of those combos could keep up with a drummer. You going to need at least 200 loud watts to keep up with light hiting drummer and and other guitar players.

In my experience 100 watts through a 15" is plenty to keep up with a loud drummer and two guitarists.

My SWR LA12 has served me good. I'm not a fan of my tone sometimes, but a change of strings changes that. Behringer's aren't really my cup of tea. My friend has the 60 watt version I think and the tone is really bland..I can't really tell you about the other amps, though.

I played a Studio 5 and it was an amazing bass. I'm sure the Cutom 4 is great.

Well, mostly this would be for playing for myself, I don't need to get over a band.
And secondly, how does the guitar PodXT handle bass?
I've heard good things and I've heard bad things about that.

Ugh, this American Wasteland mission is annoying me greatly.

Akira
10-23-2006, 09:05 PM
I think you can download a set of bass patches for the guitar Pod?

Miek
10-23-2006, 09:06 PM
Yes, that's what I've heard.

Thonk
10-23-2006, 09:13 PM
I'm not sure anyone around here has the guitar POD with the bass patches.

I think the few that have a POD have bass POD's..

Miek
10-23-2006, 09:15 PM
Yeah, besides, I would prefer to have a [qoute]real[unqoute] amp.

HELLonWHEELS

If the effects in the pos work the same way as normal single effect pedlas then all the time effecting pedals should work fine. You shuold have trouble with the distortion, overdrive, octave, wah......

Miek

Btw, I hear that the Russian Muff is better than the American for bassly stuff?

Akira
10-23-2006, 09:40 PM
That's the general opinion.

Sammy_L_D

What kind of sound are you going for amp-wise?

If it were me, I'd spend a little more money and get either the Fender Rumble 100 or the Peavey TNT115 probably.

I'll tell you right now, don't even look at the Ibanez amp.

Akira
10-23-2006, 10:10 PM
I use the Rumble 100. It's heavy, and the tone isn't the best I've ever heard, but it is pretty good. My school uses the TNT 115, but I haven't played through it. I might get to use it Wednesday.

I really don't know at this point what I want.

Well, I suppose I want to do DFA1979 tones, and BTBAM, but I think their bassist uses a 6 stringer.

Mostly I play Smashing Pumpkins, BTBAM, and Muse.

Between The Buried and Me's bassist use a five string. All of their bassists have if I am not mistaken. I know that Kevin Faulk did, and I know that Dan Briggs does, and I am assuming that their first bassist, Jason King, did as well.

They are also tuned down to C# standard.

Miek

C# being his lowest string?

Pluperfect_Arson

Correct.

Dan's bass is tuned C# F# B E A

WATTS DOES NOT EQUIL VOLUME!!!!!! I use a 100w amp with a 15" speaker and it is loud enough to hear over a medium hitting drummer, two guitarists, a piano player, a mic'd violin player, and three singers. That is with the volume at 2.

Well it kinda does. I know what you mean about watts not equaling volume but then your confusing people with little knoledge of sound. So to clarify the quality(rated spl level) of your speaker is really how much volume there is, but since almost all of the speakers nowadays are fairly close is rating that watts does equal more volume given that two differant 100 watts can put out differant volume levels, but this not even your concern

Killer Fridge
10-24-2006, 04:18 AM
Well, yeah, watts does equal volume in the broadest of terms. In general:

10 times the wattage = Twice the Volume.

It all depends on speaker efficiency, which does vary greatly. Chances are, you will not be able to hear the difference between a 100watt and a 300watt amp. The main thing to worry about it driver size/number of drivers

I'd go for the Peavey out of all those, experience tells me their solid and have a great tone

Schecters are good, REAL good. On that list I would buy either the Fender Rumble or the Ashdown 180.

What about the Roland Bass Cube?
The guitar one sounds great.

what a mix, lol, doesnt the DFA just majorly overdrive? i got pretty close to his tone by using an overdrive peddle and upping all my settings to atleast 8

I think he plays something a Fender P through some kind of SVT Ampeg stack. Very differant from a Schecter

Polyamarous
10-24-2006, 06:26 PM
He uses a bog standard P (although with 1/4 pounders methinks) through an SVT and Ampeg fridge.

Miek

Bog?

Miek
10-24-2006, 07:58 PM
Btw, what pikcups is D'arcy pimping in these, not the P bass, just the Jazz's.
It seems like a stupid question, but I can make out a logo in the lower right hand side of the pickups.

D'Arcy didn't play bass on all the albums though I know Billy did Siamese Dream im not sure what else he played bass on.

I'm just a plain ol' bedroom musician and I bought a Peavy MAXwhatever and it's great. Very solid.

I thought D'arcy played bass on Siamese Dream?
Oh well.
Anyway, the Had Melissa Auf Der Maur before too, but I prefer the records with D'arcy on them.

Sorry for so many questions, one last one, how is the Fender Deluxe Active Jazz 4er?

The Brad
10-25-2006, 12:12 AM
I am pretty sure D'Arcy played on all albums, even Machina.
It was her obligation to record it and then she left the band or something.

If it's used or new under $600 it's probably a good Fender.

Miek
10-25-2006, 12:17 AM
New under 600 yes.

The Brad

You should be fine, for best value try and buy a used MIM off of Craigslist and just swap out the pups and you should be set for some amount of time.
