Recently I started reading up on Hughes & Kettner, but I have not tried any of the amps. I like the specs, but pricey. Does anyone own any equipment by them (particularly bass amp)? If so, what and how do/did you like it?

If it helps the guitarist in my band uses a H&K guitar amp and it's pretty good - friggin loud too.

I've got a H&K bass combo, a Quantum 412.

I pretty much agree with the things said in this review:

http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Bass+Amp/product/Hughes+&+Kettner/QC+412+Quantum+Series+112+Combo/10/1

The guy says the controls are ineffective... could be, I haven't got a very big experience with different amps, but I can get all the tones I want from it.

But the pro's of this amp is:

- The tone is freakin' sweet.
- It's loud! And I mean loud.
- It's very light, 19,5 kgs (43 lbs).

The minus is obviously the price, but I got mine on sale, and haven't regretted it one single moment.

Mind you, this is the "real deal", not the Basskick cheapo series. It's sounds much, much better than those.

Here it is:

^Is one of those amps loud enough to be heard good with a drummer and a guitarist? Guitarist with a 150w marshall halfstack, btw.

I would definitely say so, yes.

I've used it with a drummer and two guitarists. It's also been used at a gig, but I only borrowed it to another guy, and didn't have the chance to be there myself. From what I heard afterwards it held up really well.

The "official" output is 400W.

Thanks for the help. I am trying to decide between Carvin and Hughes & Kettner....which one to gamble on....they both have full refunds on s & h, but I have yet to try either.

Can't help you there, never played through a Carvin.
