Hey guys, I was just wondrering about storing drums...
Normally when you are space conscious you would stack them up in descending diameters so you get a pyramid-like shape.
Seeing as all the drums hold the weight of the drums on top of them, the bass drum will hold a lot of weight.
You see a lot of drum shops storing whole 5, 6 and even 7 piece drum kits in these 'pyramids' but obviously stock heads arent really to worry about that much.
So, my questions are...
-Are heads capable of holding this much weight for weeks on end
without having some sort of permanent marking or damage?
-Does it make the bass drum (or any other drum(s)) go out of tune?
Thanks for any feedback :thumb:

It doesnt damge the heads, as far as I know. It makes the drums towards the bottom go out of tune because of the weight exerted on the heads.

I've seen some heads (only bass drum heads) horribly damaged from this, I dont nkow how long the kit was stacked though.

I do this with my kits and have never had any problems except when I was living in Pasadena during the Northridge earthquake. Three kits took a dive....but homeowners paid for relacement/repair. I have never had problems with them going out of tune or the heads getting stretched.

I place them stacked up with a towel in between each drum, just so the batters and resos dont get damaged.

I stack my toms, but not on my bass drum. I store my cymbals on my bass drum, seeming i don't have a case.

Thats what I've done with my 4-piece...
I don't know how some people can stack a 6-7piece kit on top of itself though... I'd be so scared incase it fell over or split or something.

I have drum cases, so it doesn't matter :thumb:

I took the batter off of the bass on my old 5 piece, and then stacked the other 3 toms and snares inside of the bass. As far as I know theres no physical damage :X Havent messed with them since ive stacked them though.

I had my 5 piece like that and it was very dodgy, there not stable at all so be very careful if youre stacking more than 5.

I stack my toms and put my kick next to them with my snare.

Ah. I play an 9 piece so I just place 4 big toms (22" 18" 16" 14") in one row and the smaller toms (14" 13" 12" 10" 8") next to it.

I saw a music store stacking a kit like that (was only a 5-piece), but they had the kick sitting normally. (i.e. In a playing position. :/ with everything else still on top of it.)
