I'm in the market for some new beaters, now that most of mine are worn out.

Are there any new ones on the market that I should check out?
I was thinking about those speedballs or some other aftermarket beaters.

Edit: also looking for a good hoop saver for my kick drum, the last one i bought, gibraltar, disappeared at a gig somewhere.

I bought some IC wood beaters. They give off a nice tone to the bass drum.

As for wood hoop protectors, tama make some cheap ones. Red, come in a pack of 3

Those IC wood beaters suck.

Get a real wood beater.

don't think I like wood.,,...I'm kind of into the felt.

i thought about doing the thrifty thing and just finding some hard felt to superglue on there.

the drummin guy down at my local store, and hes very respectable so no dissin this idea, but he found that skate board wheels gave him the perfect sound as a beater. they fit on really well, and also the ball bearings they use in the trucks on the skateboards are the same size, and sometimes better, than the bearings used in the pedal, great for replacements.

so give them a try, might not be for your liking, but its a thought.

cheers.

I have an Iron Cobra, therefore an Iron Cobra beater and I like it! There's something about those Marrell beaters that just turns me off...

the skulls are meh, but the round ones and the dice are ACE. nice nylon, kinda heavy... beautiful beaters.

I have mapex beaters on mine. I think most "high-end" beaters should be ok?

Beaters are just like every other product in drumming; you have options! Different weights, sounds, feels, etc.

Quite true

Plastic gives a horrible sound

Wood gives alot of attack with some more tone

Felt gives less attack

Rubber i've never tried. I guess it'd give some attack, but not as much as wood or felt.

I really like the animal beater... but what part of him hits the head!?!? Does he have the cool little beater on the back of his head like the skulls?
