Etymology: Middle English colour
But also colour came from the latin color. Buuuut, seeing as American English came from British English, not latin, your word is the variant.
I think, I'm a little confused.

Give me back my rep assclown
English never was and never will be a proper phonetic language but we've always had little clues placed in the spelling to help you pronounce it
The correct phonetic Pronounciation of Colour is Cul - lah (or kuhl-er) not Co-lor , the u placed there gives you a hint
The consequent bastardisation of the word Colour was intended to change the pronounciation of the word. Since Co-lor isnt as or anymore phonetic than Colour - the sole function of this grammatical error is the removal of the 'u' which takes out the hint and clues of correct pronounciation and encourages imperialist americani(s)*ationisms into the mainstream.
*indicates that your meant to use S instead of a Z.

anyway subject discussed is within the bounds of grammar since grammar is basically and vaguely about how to correctly write things.

you seem to think that the British way of spelling is the only right way, but it is not. you may be the home of the mother tongue, but English is all grown up now and it can take care of itself, thanks :)

no. congratulations on being wrong. highlighting 'pronunciation' is irrelevant; your issue is not with the pronunciation of the word. colour is pronounced the same as color. 'Writing or speech judged with regard to such a set of rules': you may want to take a look at the first half of that point, upon which the second is based. 'standard of usage for pedagogical or reference purposes' does not equal spelling.
this arguement is pretty gay
and you're still wrong
