according to Brann: "It's about climbing up a mountain and the different things that can happen to you when you're stranded on a mountain, in the woods, and you're lost. You're starving, hallucinating, running into strange creatures. You're being hunted. It's about that whole struggle."

Heavy downtuned guitars, lots of distortion, bass, drums....definitely metal instrumentation. Metal can be slow...look at doom metal. Metal can be ambient and instrumental too. Like I said about Mogwai and Godspeed, they use rock instrumentation and use it to make music that's not conventional rock music. I think that's sort of what Isis are doing with metal.

Slayer:

Reign in Blood
South of Heaven

Those are the best from both bands, and overall, Metallica was better based off of those albums. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Slayer more than most, but I can't deny the fact that Metallica was the better band. They both went a bit downhill around 1990. Hell, they've had about the same life span. 1982/83 to 1989 were their best years. To me, Seasons in the Abyss is Slayer's equivalent to Metallica's S/T, and neither was all that good.

Metallica:
Kill 'em All
Ride the Lightning
Master of Puppets
...And Justice for All

Slayer:
Hell Awaits
Show No Mercy
Reign in Blood
South of Heaven

Those are the best from both bands, and overall, Metallica was better based off of those albums. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Slayer more than most, but I can't deny the fact that Metallica was the better band. They both went a bit downhill around 1990. Hell, they've had about the same life span. 1982/83 to 1989 were their best years. To me, Seasons in the Abyss is Slayer's equivalent to Metallica's S/T, and neither was all that good.
I can't stand Kill 'Em All but that's me. I dig the slower approach Slayer took after Reign In Blood I liked everything they did through Divine then they started to go to ****, the new album while not gold is at least a step up from the last two albums.
