Line 6 - Spider II Series Amplifers (excluding 15, 30, and 75HD watt versions)

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Line 6 created the Spider II replacing the Spider I.

The spider II has 12 amplifer models:
Red Clean: warm jazz tones.
Green Clean: late '60s and early '70s clean tones.
Red Twang: mid '60s Fender amps
Green Twang: vintage Fender tweed amps '53 Deluxe Reverb and a '58 Bassman
Red Blues: between gritty, swamp infected cleans to syrupy drive tones.
Green Blues: early British pop/rock tone
Red Crunch: '68 Marshall "Plexi" 50-watt
Green Crunch: '68 Marshall "Plexi" 100-watt with a few added extras
Red Metal: Mesa Dual Rectifier high-gain metal sound
Green Metal: Mesa Triple Rectifer aggressive "chugga" palm mutes and unique mid control feature.
Red Insane: sub-octave fuzz, and threw in a phase shifter (RATM sound)
Green Insane: Ultra High gain...line 6 original...

These series amps come with:
Amp Model Knob (to switch between all 12 amplifer models)
Drive (also can be used as a distortion boost when tap button is held down)
Bass knob
Mid knob
Treble knob
Channel Volume knob
2 effects knobs
reverb (also used as a noise reduction when tap button is held down)

The effects:
Chorus, Flange, Phaser, Tremolo, Delay, Tape Echo, Sweep Echo.

The tap button (when help down takes you to an on board tuner)
The tap button also controls the speed of the effects.

Each effect is highly useful.

I've owned the 150watt halfstack version for about 2 years, i've practiced with it, gigged with it, and it has never let me down. Very versital, nice solidstate amplifer from line 6.

the speakers in ANY version of this amplifer has Celestion speakers.

You can also save 4 presets...

if you buy the shortboard you have access to 36 presets hidden in the amplifer...(just a side note.)

Overall:
Line 6 didn't do a half assed job. It's real kick ***. Good for the price. Doesn't matter if you are beginning to play guitar and this is your first amplifer or a seasoned pro, a nice little amplifer.

Hope this review was helpful to all interested in Line 6 Spider II's.

This is a little more generous than I would be with this amp. Its distortion is really digital and cold and the clean is downright terrible. Most of the non-metal amp models sound terrible no matter what you do and the whole thing just sounds bleh. On the plus side, I love having built in delay and the channel changing and saving is fantastic. For the price, they are good but they don't sound great.

I agree. Line 6 amps sound quite messy. The sound mirrors static, at times. Espiecally is you're trying to get a crisp tone.

Having to play one of these amps was one of the least pleasant experience of my life. My Fender Champion 110 sounds better.

try the vox valvetronix, i did by chance, and they're much better than the line6 range, in my opinion. Something to do with the valve, i think, it sounds lovely when you turn it up.

I love mine as well. I managed to fix the clean tone problem by using a digitech rp 200. I put it on a clean tube amp setting (which sounds really good) and then using a fbv4 footswitch to go in between clean and insane for metal. It makes both channels sound even better.

For metal, for the price, it's amazing. I am not understating that. It is amazing. Line out to your computer's input and it's perfect for recording.

The Line 6 Spider series is mediocre at best. A friend of mine owns the new Spider III with the artist presets. Gotta love artists presets that sound nothing like the real thing. Really, the only advantages I see in this are you get a huge amount of decent built-in effects and the volume you can get. Don't get me wrong, they're great starter amps and have a great value, but I really find the tone subpar, even for a solid state. I find the clean channel much too thin for my tastes.

I wouldn't say it's perfect for recording, Toaster. Personally, I think you're better off just miking a better amp. But that's just me.

I'm not a huge fan of modeling amps in general, but these aren't very good.

For me the spider is one of the best amps that dont have tubes, but for their prices I preffer to get a valve amp.

ive had it for a few years, through practices, shows, jam sessions. Its decent, and one of the best sollid state amps for the price.

just dont ever turn the volume up past half unless ur prepared for the worst assault on your ears uve ever heard.
