Okay, heres where i am, i can sing, and use my diaphram and stuff, and hit every note, but i end up sounding like a little puss when i sing, how can i develop my voice to a more metallica style of vocals without waiting for my voice to change, also how long will this take. and what effects does trivium's singer put on his vocals, i know he is using some sort of effects on his voice. what are they?
and by metallica, i mean generally, i dont like some of his stylistic atributes, but the growl and harshness is what im aiming for.

smoke and drink heavly for about 20 years, that shud do it. But seriously thats just a natural thing, if you dont naturally have a harshness to your voice your probly gunna be able to get it.
rasped singing is what you're talking about
it uses a technique similar to screaming except it's pitched. i don't know how to tell you to do it cause i just figured it out one day, but try learning to do a non-growl scream and then try to sing a note at the same time.
look around for merkaba's threads on singing/screaming for a better explanation.
oh, and i don't think the guy from Trivium uses any effects other than compression, pitch correction, reverb, delay, and maybe some slight distortion on the screams. none of these really alter the tone very much; if you can't already do the rasped singing, you're not going to sound like that.

How old are you? If you havent yet gone through puberty or are going through it then you just gotta wait. Youre probably a tenor or such if you havent gone through it and you can't seem to get that type of strong or mid range sound. If youre 17 or older, per se, then perhaps your voice is where it will stay, more than likely. Some people just have higher or lower voices/setups.
But yes, other than that the gravelly effect is nothing but a technique thing. Plenty of that and all around info in the hotline sticky.

Chain smoke 500 unfiltered rollys before going on stage and eat some sandpaper.
That should do it.
Or the afore mentioned technique thing.

Well they say that a boys voice doesn't begin to deepen until shortly after his penis has finished its phase of rapid growth.
And that's suposed to mean...?
My voice broke at about 12 and was done at about 14, now I'm 15.
You tryin to say that I'm short?

Its not the size its how you use it, but size makes the job in hand (and well out of hand) easier.
