I have FL Studio 6 and I've had fun screwing around with it, but it's a pain to get real melodies without clicking the right key on the piano roll countless times. I know I can use a keyboard (piano) to make melodies, but how exactly do I do it?
This keyboard has Midi out, in, and thru jacks, and it is a Roland HP 800, pretty old.
First, is this even possible? And what kind of cord do I need to do this?
Thanks.

yeah you can use the keyboard as a midi, all you need is a midi interface like a little usb midi converter

When I make melodies, would I just record it live and it would go into the program exactly as I played it? How does it work?

Just so you know, you can also use your computer keyboard as a keyboard to play melodies in Fruityloops instead of clicking with your mouse. It's definitely a lot easier and it allows you to play chords. I had a keyboard on the last song I made and that was how I played it. It turned out great!

there's a record button in fruity loops, press that, then press play, it records whatever you do with your midi keyboard with whatever instruments you've assigned to it. A lot of it's just trial and error.
