i just got my 18" wuhan china today, and its very loud. as in almost louder than my snare. when i hit it, it actually really hurts my ears. is this supposed to happen? i slapped a moongel on there and it kinda took care of it. but i mean like is said, is this supposed to happen?

Chinas are loud. Wear earplugs.

well thats not the problem im worried about, the problem im worried about is that im afraid its gonna be so loud that it will almost be too obnoxious (sp?) to hit, and when i hit it i just dont think it would flow together as well. and i wrong

1. Dynamic control.
2. In a live setting everything will be mixed to sound good.
3. Dynamic control.

Man that reminds me, I tried a Wuhan S 18" china at the local shop the other day. It was LOUD. REALLY LOUD.

Thats weird. My 18" Wuhan china is too quiet. It doesnt even compete with my 18" Zildjian Oriental China Trash.

You shouldn't put moongel on a cymbal. Anything that unnaturally restricts the free vibration of the cymbal is going to be bad for it. Wuhans aren't exactly the most reliable cymbals in the first place.

Permanent Solution's got it down anyways.

I find you can't get a decent sound out of a china if you don't hit it pretty hard

Wuhans aren't known for their consistency as far as every cymbal sounding the same anyway. You got a china for like 50 bucks, stop complaining.

Hmmm, I love my 18" Wuhan. It has rivets in it too. It seems to blend in for me. You'll get used to it.

I have an 18 and 16 inch, yes they are loud as ****. You should be wearing some kind of ear protection.

i have ear protection. i had played on an OCDP set at battle of the bands a few months ago, and it had like a 12", a 14", and an 18" and they all sounded good to me, but i guess i dont remember them being that loud

Talk about hurting ears and being loud and abraisive, I played one at a band audition and I didn't like hitting it, I wonder why so many pros use it. Also its not china high its china trash

it may seem too loud in the practice room but a cymbal like that is just the thing for cutting through heavy amplification. i would hang onto it.

Yeah ive got an 18" zildjian china trash. loud as **** hurts my ears.

Im doing my hsc in about a year. 20% of my mark out of the whole year comes from 1 song, ill b using my china to play. A mates of mine that done their hsc this year said u get marked down for playing too loud one lost 4 marks out of 20 and thats alot! since im using a china in screwed! got an suggestions. also using a different cymbal creates variety so marks go up.

To be honest if his china is almost as loud as his snare, after he muffled it with moongel, he must be tapping that snare.

Most of you guys hit like wimps anyway >_>

Your china sucks.

Hit it softer.

Wuhans are cheap. Cheaper cymbals like that won't "activate" (produce a clear and defined tone) at lower volumes, so to get a decent sound you must hit it harder.

Buy a nicer china or get earplugs

Well living in the UK you cant do that because I dont know anywhere that sells them in the shop. When I bought my "10 Wuhan Splash I didnt like it but now I really like it even though my kit is piled up one on top of each other hehe
