Looking to get a new kit soon...ive been looking at the Yamaha Stage Custom Advantage Standard kit, but dont know the difference in the standard and fusion kit. Pro's con's on the kit? Also does anyone know where I can see a pic of the Raven Black Fade they have for that kit?

I have had a Yamaha Stage Custom Advantage in standard sizes in Cranberry Red Fade for about 3 or 4 years now and I love it. I use it mostly for heavier rock, but have used it for HS Jazz Band shows around town also. In my opinion, if you are in the market for a mid level kit, accept nothing but Yamaha SCA, its a beautiful thing...

^^ true that! I have the yamaha stage custom advantage in fusion toms and the natural finish. It's so amazing once you tune it correctly. But remember, try out the kit before buying it!

i also own a stage custom, tho mine is the staeg custom standard, which has stopped being made. you can get them to sound real nice if u do things rite like tuning or adding x rings. Ive heard other mid level kits like exports an the stage customs are much better

The coated ambs on the toms sound very warm, but not as warm as emperors. Also, they have a lot of tuning range. The CS dot on the snare (when tightened like a biitch) has a lot of crack. :)

thanks for the approving comment! and yeah, that's the lowest I can get em at that style without angling them too much. But, like I said, I've moved things around since that pic was taken. So yeah.
Back on topic: TS, what kit do you plan to get?

hahah...its hard to tell with pictures....almost like the natural is a yellow color....but its probably pretty sweet in person.

I have a SCA with the standard size toms, I would of gotten the fusions if I had known better. I'd go with the fusion sizes if I was you, and I guess the natural because black is borrrrringggg.

that or white, there is something about a white finish that makes the drums, uhhhh, uhhhhhhhh, dammit, what's the word i'm looking for.
Mizzy
10-10-2006, 05:27 PM
yah black may be boring to some....but im not looking for a GREAT looking kit. To me to flashy of drums isnt my style. the Natural is cool, but to also fit the scene of type of music you play is cool to. If I were to get a natural finish I would get black hardware which i cant get. looks of drums only go so far...how you play is key :p hahah, just playing

On a realistic level?

What kinda kit is that?
Mizzy
10-10-2006, 09:55 PM
i really dont see a difference....im also a firm believer in "you get what you pay for". Im not always right but I feel there is a reason why the kit your so dying for ME to get is cheaper. I will be ordering this kit in a couple hours

SC has 1.6 mm hoops
CM has 2.5 mm hoops
SC:birch outer ply Philippine mahogany, and falkata inner plies
CM: maple
The Catalina maples just came out this year , Gretsch wants to get them around town to spread the word about them , then they will adjust the price.
You pay a premium price for the Yamaha Stage Customs. you also pay for fancy lugs

whats the difference in hoops....makes a huge difference in sound? this is my set...you get the catina

Well I got the yammies and I love them. I got it in Raven Black fade, some sat its black and booooring, but its really not. It does have a sweet green tint to it and when light is really on it, it looks amazing. I didnt go with natural because EVERYONE has it....so yah. its awsome!!!
