Alright so after a few minor upgrades to cymbals and hardware, and being able to take my set home for the weekend for some better lighting, I took some new pics of my set(i.e. the front, which until now was against the wall preventing picture taking lol). I tried to take some nice abstract photos with my macro lens, so tell me what you think(pics or kit) I know it's nothing too special, but neither is my girlfriend and I love her to death too lol. (She won't let me take abstract pics of her though, except for one time for a class)

That is by far the nicest sparkle I have ever seen. I don't even like sparkles, and that is incredible.
Weird angle on the crash next to the hats, but otherwise, awesome set.
Damn, I can't get over that finish.

Is your crash positioned at the such so that you can ride it?
Or whatever?
Nice set anyways son.

Is your crash positioned at the such so that you can ride it?
Yes it is actually. It has a very woody stick sound to it on top of being a very nice crash. So sometimes when the dynamics call for super loud or super soft playing, you can make it sound like a nice ride in the mix.

Fair enough, thats pretty sweet.
One thing I would say is raise your kick front up if its flat on the ground, from what I can see its flat, you won't get full resonance with it lying across the ground.

Abstract? Aren't those just macros?
Just joking though, but wicked set. I love seeing a drumset set up in the middle of a good looking room, such a homey environment. It must do wonders for your playing.

They are abstract because they are objects photographed in unusual ways. And yeah the environment of the drums can definitely effect your expression in your playing and the feel-good vibes.

but more noticeably. do it so your beater has less of a distance to travel.

Nice finish, and an intersting cymbal choice. i like it.

Thanks for the positive comments guys! I love the finish too. I didn't plan on buying this set but I saw the shell pack sitting in a guitar center one day and I just HAD to have it. It's amazing for being such an affordable set, and it has a lot of features to it as well. When I am playing gigs people always come up and say the set really catches their eye and sticks out beautifully on stage, and they are always surpirised to hear I didn't pay 1000 dollars for the shells.
I love having two rides that vary in so many ways from each other, although being a jazz enthusiast my K gets a lot more attention than my A. The fast crash blends perfectly with both cymbals, I'll have to put audio up some time when I get a chance to record.
If you couldn't already tell, Alex Riel is one of my all time inspirations for drumming, so my tom angles and heights are set up a lot like his. Not just to be like him, but the set looks best that way, and it's so effortless moving between all the toms and cymbals.
P.S. how tall are the tall fellows on this forum? Anyone as tall as or taller than me? I would like to know how your setup is.
P.P.S Drummer300BTX what does the BTX stand for in your username? If its for the BTX computer case specifications I'll crap my pants that someone else has BTX besides just me.

I usually just stalk peoples kit pictures and don't message about them, but I had to say very nice kit. I like the cymbal choices. And the red sparkle finish is kind of a turn on.
Do you play romantic jazz music with the lights low and the fireplace going to attract the ladies?

Nice kit. But, those aren't abstract at all. They are merly close ups.

Not to be mean, but yes they are abstract, my profession is graphic design and I have taken numerous classes on photography. It's not abstract art, it is however abstract photography and there is a huge difference. Abstract photography is capturing something in such away where removed from context the audience may not clearly be able to tell what it is, but it strikes a similar emotion in them anyways. It is a figurative and representative way of capturing something, without actually doing it to represent what it is a figure of. i.e. taking close up shots of part of a drum set to represent the beauty of the drum set, and not the drum set itself. The pics of the whole set are plain old representational and informational photos.

I'm not quite as tall as you, only 6'4" here.
My setup is similar to yours, but standard size tom toms, so they're a bit lower. I probably have to most embarrassing cymbal collection on here, so I really say anything but this: I only a 12" splash and 14" hats, and they're not good at all; ZBTs sound better. Add a crappy very low end Mapex to that and you have my kit! :p

How tall am I in your american measurement thingy?
Im 172 cm tall
drummerdave
10-08-2006, 08:14 AM
you are almost 5'8, 6'5" would be about 196 cm
and TS, nice kit
We_Love_Lime
10-08-2006, 09:49 AM
Would it Geoff?
I was always under the assumption that 1 meter = 3ft.
Therefore 2 meters = 6 feet.
I'm about 196....and I don't think I'm 6'5, I might be wrong though about what equals what.
BSU_53
10-08-2006, 11:18 AM
One meter is 3 feet and 3 inches so two meters is 6 feet 6 inches, so 197.5 cm is 6 feet 5 inches.

6'4" here, very high set up, although everything is very close. Just a crappy e-kit with some wuhan splashes and a wuhan china and a porkpie snare on the way. I am very slowly turning it into a good aucoustic set

I understand what abstract is. However, I do not feel close up shots are abstract. While they are nice pictures, they easily relate to the drumset, and it is clear to see what the subject matter is. Nice pictures, nice kit. But not very abstract in my mind.
Anywho, again, nice kit.
