this is kind of hard to beleive... I have a ****ty forum series pearl kit, that came with a terrible crash and ugly hats. BUT... I've never gotten around to changing the hats, I've upgraded most of my set, but for some reason, never got to the hats. Well, after about 3 years of wearing them down, they are the best hats i've played on. They are absolutly perfect now for some reason. Perfect amount of wash, and tick when closed. Very warm, and and bright at the same time. They should sell these hats pre-worn, I'd definetly buy them!

You're kidding right? Pearl hats?
Go try out some real hats. Even XS20s and Pro-Sonixs are a huge upgrade from those crappy Pearl Hats.
Shouldn't even bother with those anyway though. Just save up for a professional set of hats so you won't have to buy twice. If you need any help finding hats we have a "Cymbal Finder" Thread in the Gear and Media Section.

I accidently broke a pair of pearl hats when playing on a kit in guitarcenter...
not even 3 minutes of playing, the sheer blatent cheapness was so obvious that everyone laughed and the a sales guy proceeded to, very easily, fold the cymbal in half.
after a while, you get used to waht you have. Ive had my pearl/solar hats for ages now, and i too have grown to care for them. But im still gonan replace them first :)
his ear has grown used to the sound of the hats, thats normal.

I can not fathom how those hat's have lasted 3 years.
Just.. I really can't. They are the thinnest, cheapest cymbals. Maybe he's not hitting them?

My pearl hats have lasted years.
I made an effort to make them a touch more trashy and interesting. Which worked. But they still sound a little flat.

i told my guitarist to go at my 8" wuhan splash with whatever, and try to make it sound cool. he said he took a sledgehammer from over his head with the cymbal on the floor, and it did nothing

This same phenomenon has happened to me. i have a 20in paise alpha power ride and a 16in paiste alpha crash (the other alphas) and I still really like them.

first off, that isn't possible unless it was a foam sledge, secondly, why, I like my wahun 8" splash

Way back in the day, when i just started drumming, my pearl hats sounded fine to me. Then I bought ZBT hats, which blew me out of the water and realized how horrible the Pearl hats were. Then I bought Saluda hats, which blew me out of the water and made me realize how hard ZBTs suck. Hopefully the next thing to blow my current hats out of the water will be 13" Meinl Soundcaster Soundwaves

wow! pearl hats must be really awful! i had some zbts and i hated them. i use k custom hats now and they blow away the zbts. i've also been playing a house kit at the local bar that has zht hats. they are actually not so bad.

What's this with people taking crashes and rides, and combining them to make hats. Is it worth it?

Thin? No these hats arn't thin at all. They are quite beefy actually. And i dont think im getting used to them, because everyone loves them. And i have played many high end hats. Just something about these hats now that they are really worn in.

Well thats weird. But its your opinion. I'd like to hear these hatts BTW

I'd like to see pictures of what happens to cymbals when they oxodize. So if you somehow do it, post it

I have the pearl stock cymbals and I thought it would be fun to hit them with a hammer to basically experiment with different sounds, now theyre much trashier and darker and I actually like them. Josiah I dont know what was wrong with the ones you were hitting, but mine are quite old (7 years?) so they might be making them even cheaper now, but I would have to imagine something was wrong with that pair if they broke that easy. Im damn sure mine sound better then xs20's, I even like them alot more then my HH fusion hats (but thats personal preference, I just think theyre way too thick).
It would be immpossible to hit a cymbal with a sledge from over you head and not do anything to the cymbal.

I folded a pearl crash in half the other day! I call it a taco cymbal.
