I got a set of Studio Kans about 5 months ago and the sound stopped coming out of one side about 2 months ago, this had happened before with another set and I sent them back and they sent me some new ones. My dad, who is the handiman took them apart and couldn't find anything wrong with them.
Anybody got any idea what's wrong with them?

Could be the cable that runs between the headphones and cdplayer/computer.
I have had a pair for 4 years and mine have worked fine.

The volume pot is most likely dirty.

I'm guessing that's the little black box inside the headphone, is there anyway to take it apart and clean it as a DIY project or will I need to take it to a specialist?

*shrug* take the rubber cover of the volume knob and fire bunch of spray cleaner up in it

Whoa, don't do that!^^
Take it to an electrician you might know or a local recording studio.
Dirty pots are extremely common and an electrician or studio engineer should be able to fix it for you in no time.
If you don't know either of these types of people, then look about on the internet about cleaning pots

....
You have no idea what you are talking about.
"Medium Duty Electro Klene is a moderate strength cleaner which provides both solvent strength and flushing action to remove dust, dirt and light grease and oil from complex electronic assemblies."

...But you didn't say to use "Medium Duty Electro Klene"
I interpreted it as you wrote it, which was...
"*shrug*"
"fire bunch of spray cleaner up in it"
For all anyone knows, that could mean a spray of mr.sheen!
True, i don't know how to clean a pot, I didn't say i did.
Thats why i said to "Take it to an electrician"

And to the threadstarter... I recommend taking them to someone who knows what they're doing.
I expect those studio kans cost quite a bit, a DIY job is a bit risky if you ask me :)

I already tried shooting a bunch of dust-off nto the volume pot, it didn't fix it, but didn't make it any worse. I'll head to a hardware store and find some of the cleaner stuff. I don't know of any electricians in my area.

Then i don't know...
I urge you not to do it yourself unless you know whats wrong.
You could end up breaking something that isn't already broken
