it was originally written on a four string, so yes. killerfridge has a video on youtube that breaks it down.

yes it is, it was originally written on a four string, then when he got his fretless sixer he rearranged it for that. also, on claypool's most recent tour with the fancy band i saw him play it on a four.

edit: and in the time it took me to type that 3 other people posted the same thing

lacquer head is an easy one
1.thumb/ 2.right hand slap /3.pop /4.right hand slap
------x---
------3---
-x--------
----x----x
1....2.....4
that is the pattern and its straight 16th notes, the three is not a note, they are all mutes, only play the x's not the three

Tommy the Cat was origanilly written on 4 string. Listen to Suck on This

Suck on This version - yes

Seas of Cheese version - no (he uses the B and C strings a lot). You could play it on a 5 string technically but there would be lots of huge jumps and I've yet to see anyone do it. You might be able to theoretically play it on a 4 with some weird tuning, but I doubt it so severely I'm going to say it's practically impossible.

The Seas of Cheese version is way different and a lot harder/more complicated.

Yes, the Seas of Cheese version is a damn sight harder than the one I do (I took this one from the Rhinoplasty live version)
