I think you need a new singer first of all :upset:

Beyond that, he is getting lessons so hes getting better. But from a production point of view, what could i do?

That actuall wasn't bad, the drums were slighty iffy, but good in their own way.

It was sloppy and apart from the obvious bad singer the bass was a little low in the mix and it was a bit jagged around the edges (not in a good way).
But you had the basic idea down so yeah keep at it.

First, go through and get rid of all the plosives (the hard 'p' and 'b' sounds from the singer). The vocals could use some EQ as well. Bring out the formants (the high part of the voice) and maybe add a tiny bit of distortion to give it a crisper sound.
Second, the bass could use some serious EQ. The only real present part of the sound is the fundamentals and early harmonics, which is giving it a dull, shapeless sound.
The drums could use some work as well. The top end is pretty trashy, while the low end is very boxy. The middle section (READ: snare) isn't powerful. A good punk snare cuts through the mix.
The performance overall is sloppy. You may want to consider re-recording it to a click track or just rehearshing more before you record next time. The leveling is screwy too. The vocals are way out front, and the rest of the band sounds like their in the closet of the room the singer is in by comparison. My suggestion would be to mix at lower volumes to ensure that everything has a distinct presence (ie, if you can hear everything when it's quiet, you can hear everything when it's loud).

Mix volumes really cant go much lower without losing their power. Kinda why the snare doesnt have much to it.
I will try it though because i dont think Moseph is ever wrong. You are a good man sir. Well, thank you I will do some work.
By the way these are just demo recording not to go on an actual demo but yeah im just practiseing.

Try a passive compressor then. Rather than turning up the gain on the compressor after it has done it's work, just let it sit there to control the peaks of the waveform. It'll essentially behave as an automatic attenuator.
Or, if you did all the drums at once, multi-band compression, to put a leash on the highs and lows and bring out the mids.

Yeah hotpants I wouldn't expect this dude to have that many decent mics unless he borrowed or rented them, judging by his kit on the D&P forum.

You've never seen my kit bud. Please show me in th D&P where you saw it.
Drums were recorded with a SM57 and a sm58. '57 on the kick and '58 overhead into a Tapco audio interface. I used Sony Acid

I agree with what was said above about the drums. Seems to be a lot of cymbol or not enough snare.

Perhap's another sm57 on snare, but it's never gonna sound like a properly miced set.
